Well, the telecast was actually on Comcast, and the commentator (Lamar Thomas) got fired for his unprofessional conduct.

I saw the highlights of the game and the brawl. Pretty fkn wild. I saw one dude take his helmet off and swing it at another guys head.

Here is a link to what Lamar Thomas said during the brawl.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0610/gallery.announcers/content.1.html

A pretty stupid comment but there are others in the link that top his remarks.

Such as #15 - Comments by Max McGee

During a Packers-Vikings game in 1990, former Super Bowl MVP Max McGee said Minnesota running back Herschel Walker ran "like he's just stole a watermelon headin' south." McGee later apologized, saying he grew up in the South, where he was always told to "carry the ball like a watermelon."

Shalala and Coker are a fkn joke. 1 game suspensions, conveniently against Duke. The NCAA has to step in here. Hell the NFL suspended the guy from the Titans more than this.

It just goes to show how Miami has always recruited the thug type players and reward that behavior.

Sounds like the FIU coach has it right.

Punishments fit the crime

One thing about Miami - when they do something, it's never in a small way. They embarrassed themselves from the field to the announce booth to the top.

Not saying the program needed to be suspended, but a 1 game suspension after something like this? Ridiculous. And we'll see how the new program holds up.

Whatever.

Worst refs Ive ever seen in ANY sport, at ANY level.

I NEVER cry about officiating (like stepford Flyer fans) but this was a joke!

The Rutgers D was/is AWESOME!
But the calls were really a diference maker early on IMO.

Anyhow...

I guess nobody wants to chatter about the biggest sporting event in my or ENY's lifetime, so while we unproductively quiver at our desks waiting for 3:30 on Saturday, here is a point to ponder for all of you Playoff Pundits. I COMPLETELY agree with this guy, BTW:

HUGE game Saturday. I figure it'll be no more than a 3-point lead the entire game. Home field the deciding factor?

Regarding the article, there's been a lot of talk here in NJ (when they're not talking about Rutgers) and on The Fan about the loser of this game, and why a rematch WON'T happen on 1/8. The USC-ND winner is the consensus pick to play the Michigan-OSU winner, mostly because it will generate more juice nationwide to not have a Big 10 rematch.

First, anybody but ND (the effing Dallas Cowboys of college football). Second, it will be the potential TV ratings that decide who plays Saturday's winner, and I think Saturday's loser will be on the short end of that stick.

Speaking of Rutgers, because I'm a Jersey boy I've been casually caught up in the excitement of their 9-0 season, and enjoyed the Louisville game immensely, but, as an Eagle fan, I got twenty bucks that says they lose to either Cincinnati or Syracuse, before they lose to West Virginia.

A robe with Scarlet Red trim, please.

Yes, I am still opposed to the playoff. I am also opposed to whining and politicking your way into the BCS. I am also opposed to disrupting the long-held policy of the Big 10 not playing any games after the week before Thanksgiving so that players can be home with their families and/or preparing for final exams. I am last, also opposed to voters who vote in extremely inconsistent manners. I am, for, however, a lot of the controversy and attention that situations like this bring up. I actually think it's kinda fun. Look at it this way, Florida-Michigan just became yet another good rivalry on the National scene.

Guess what you're gonna see a whole lot more of now that it's worked.

An Ohio State - Michigan rematch on a neutral field for the national championship would have been a dream matchup for the ages. I firmly believe that a playoff system would have resulted in that matchup, since I firmly believe they are the two best teams. Alas, we will never know.

Right, but the guarantee of basically both of them being in the any hypothetical playoff would have gone a long ways in killing the drama on November 18th. Troy Smith probably would have been pulled at halftime. Let's see Michigan go out and beat USC before we jump to any conclusions about who is better than who. This trip to Pasadena is notoriously brutal on Michigan, esp. when USC is involved. If Michigan loses, the entire SEC is gonna cry out about how right they were, regardless of the outcome against OSU. Just one time I'd like to see Michigan gets USC in the Big house in wintry weather....

USC will blow their doors off. I think Michigan will play "deflated" because they got screwed. (we've seen it with other teams in the past)

The point is, without a playoff there is no REAL way to decide who's better. For all we know Boise State is the best team in the country.

I'd prefer a 16 team playoff, but if you had an 8 team playoff where the 6 BSC conference champs got in and the top 2 at large got in, Michigan would be in. However, they Ohio State & Michigan still would have had to play to win in November to guarantee they got in - counting on getting in after losing wouldn't be guaranteed.

You could also structure a playoff so the 6 conference champs get a bye (maybe a 10 team playoff)

My point is, you could easily make it so the regular season game was still important.

Again, I think most of this talk of 16 team playoffs and such come from the same, ridiculous mindset that exists at schools like Miami, Florida, and FSU, whereby college football is merely a minor league program for the pros, and that "scholarships" are granted so that kids can have free room and board and a student commons to hang out and play video games in when there aren't at practice. How many f'ing games do you want them to play, Dino? 15? And run it from basically August straight trough mid January, with hardly any break?

I still contend that a playoff system is the only way to get a true nat'l champ.

an 8 team playoff would be over before christmas and you could still keep your precious Omega Micron PC and Gaylord Hotels Bowl games.

Give the top 4 teams a week one home game, in the next round have the top teams get a home game and play the nat'l champ game at a neutral site.

"How many f'ing games do you want them to play, Dino? 15?"

This does not work in division I-A, div II, or div III college football!

For those that don't know this Saturday is the Division III Football Championship Semifinals Wesley College vs. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Wisconsin which we be Welsey's 14th game of the season. They win that they play in the Stagg Bowl next weekend in Salem, Va. which will be their 15th game of the season.

If every other college division can make a playoff work, there is no reason Division I can't, trouble is the powers to BE do not want one.

Michigan wuz robbed!

They are far better than the Gators, and likely could beat Ohio State on a neutral field considering how close they came playing in an unfriendly stadium.

Even had USC won, Michigan still would have deserved to be in the BCS cahmpionship game.

College football needs a playoff. The advent of the BCS system is about the time I stopped paying attention to college football. They can still have corproate-sponsored Bowl games in a playoff format, just make each bowl a round of the playoff tree (lesser bowls are earlier games in the tournament), and annually rotate between the big bowls (Rose, Orange, etc.) as the final championship game.

I'm so tired of this argument. A 16 game playoff would be 4 weeks. You 2nd weekend of December. Cut back to an 11 game regular season. You could even keep your bogus "conference championship" games.

So this year you'd have games:

12/9 (8 games)
12/16 (4 games)

Do the semi's on New Years Day and the championship 1 week later. You're going to tell me that's not doable? PLEASE.

Hell, Division 2 has a 24 team playoff! Division 3 has a 32 team playoff!!!

And this argument is absurd, also. OOOOOOHHHH, I'll bet there is a massive run on hotel reservations and rental cars in Whitewater, WI for the big game this weekend with a big crowd. Will they get 5,000 people to watch this thing?
