I could really care less about the playoff. What a satisfying way for Michigan to end a trying season. So they lost to the defending 1-AA champion this year, but beat the defending 1-A champion. That may be the perfect summary to Lloyd Carr's tenure.

Don't worry, Michigan wouldn't have been in a playoff this year. They could have still won a meaningless bowl game.
