If that was the offer they brought to Soriano (and who knows if the offer was embellished after the fact?), then I'm glad the Scrubs beat out the Phils.

"i'm really starting to hate the cubs and will be adding them to my list of teams to hate with special zeal."

Considering the makeup of their front office, I always figured you for a closet Bosox fan...

NTFF.

Dude, hating the Cubs is like hating the kids who ride the short bus. Good for a few laughs, maybe, but hatred is a strong emotion for such an inept, hopeless organization.

i dont know, i hate the redskins a lot, and they have a similar profile to what the cubs seem to have become.

Ah, to think that this time last year folks would have said the same about my boys...

Anyway, the Cubs got completely fucked by the terrible injury trail of the two Golden Boys.

Saw a study once attributing MLB durability of pitchers to the number of innings thrown in college. The strongest case was some dude on Rice that threw something absurd like 340 innings in one season. But right behind him on the list was Prior.

The Cubs almost seem to revel in their ineptitude, embracing the "lovable loser" tag as their defining characteristic. The Red Sox as well, before 2004. No respect for that mentality at all.

I guess this applies more to their fanbase, but still.

And the Steve Bartman debacle was one of the ugliest incidents in baseball history.

I always thought the Phillies staying in Philly and not the As was the ugliest moment in baseball history

So Graham is officially out, huh? Does this mean Wheels is the heir apparent? Anyone heard anything as to why his contract was not renewed? Asking for too much money?

Ah, and this is where the inability to separate reality from something NEAG says becomes a tad frustrating....

The obvious response is to chime in with "for real?" in hopes that someone actually physically challenged Wheeler, but you know that NEAG will just respond with the depressing "Nah, I was just kidding"

Gillick somehow manages to swap Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez for Freddy Garcia. Gillick hasn't given me much reason to be a fan, but I'll say it now, "More trades like this, please."

We could have waited forever for Floyd to show some consistency, and apparently, Gonzalez, who came over with Rowand in the Thome trade, was not highly rated by the organization. Not having to part ways with Rowand, especially since the much-coveted free agent bats don't seem to be materializing, was key. Garcia can eat a lot of innings this year before he signs a $749 million contract with the Mets.

In other baseball news, Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry was admitted to an Orlando hospital during baseball's winter meetings Wednesday night after telling a team doctor he felt ill, according to a team official. Perhaps he was feeling sick about giving $40 million to Ted Lilly after shelling out a fortune for Soriano, Ramirez, et al. The Green Mill must be jumping in Chicago.
