I don't like a lot of money spent on middle relief, either, since those guys are so unpredictable.

I would have liked a more dependable and obvious answer at 3rd, they still need a RF, and probably a closer, since I don't trust Gordon.

Sorry for the double post.

And I wasn't saying Howard should be signed now, either. He still has time left, as well. I just don't like the way Amaro handled the question, then signed another guy with a lot of arb left, too. That's all.

I basically don't like the way the money has been spent so far. Too much for Alfonseca, they didn't need Barajas, etc.

Regarding the closer, KB, I don't think you guys are getting one and I am in agreement with you on Gordon. If I were a Phillie fan that situation would probably scare me more than any other. Closers are expensive and hard to come by and I don't see the Phils ponying up for anything that's out there, and that's not much. And Gordon was SHAKY at the end of last year.

What's the latest on Drabek's kid, still a possible pitcher or did the arm issue move him to a SS prospect?

I don't think there was actually an arm issue. I think someone jumped the gun when they reported that. Pretty sure he's been pitching a bit lately, so that's a good sign.

just keep the embers from the hot stove league burning...

The Phillies and pitcher Brett Myers reached agreement on a three-year contract extension today, a source close to the situation told The Inquirer.

The contract is worth $25.75 million, though Myers has a chance to earn more through incentives.

and it looks like the phils are trying to trade rowand for linebrink. i know that linebrink was considered one of the better set up men last year and the phils are in desperate need of bullpen help, but the guy's era wasn't that great (around 3.5) - an above average starting centerfielder seems a bit steep, considering how hard it is to evaluate middle relievers from year to year.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Rowand for Linebrink move, the pitching is gonna carry them as far as they go this year. The question I have is the third outfielder if that happens?

Definately fine with packin up Rowand for Linebrink, agree that the pitchin is what'll hold em back in the end.

I thought the Rowand for Linebrink thing was dead 2 days ago, and it was the Padres that torpedoed it.

i think the padres gm said he wanted to wait until spring training so he could evaluate the outfielders they already have.

Anyone catch this dumb blonde on Sports Final talking about Ryan Howard with Eskin?

Eskin says, "once he becomes arbitration-eligible" and she cuts him off w/ "2011", clearly confusing Free Agency with "arbitration-eligible".

He corrected her but how do these people have jobs?

Super.

Didn't watch Sports Final, but that whole show is a train wreck. I normally record i9t and just fast forward through for any Eagles news, but watching it is awful.

The goofy bastard who talks with his hands is like a Philly's douchiest, never accepted by his peers, reject "Philly fan".

The girl absolutely blew her way onto the show. There is no other reasonable explanation for her to be there. She's not quite good looking enough to be eye candy and she doesn't know what she's talking about.

Vai...loved him as a player, but he's a moron. His take on Philly sports teams is just wrong. Every time. On everything. He'll come up with ideas and opinions that shock me...stuff you'd expect a former player to understand. To give an example, one of his ideas last off-season was re-signing Runyan and moving him to left tackle. What?

Eskin is the worst. He's the swampiest man on TV, for one. You could literally use his forehead as an eco-friendly source of renewable grease. He's a total Eagles fanboy who has one source inside the Eagles organization (Reid). He defends incorrect positions he took for years after they've been proven wrong. He's awful.

The late-night talk shows in this city aren't anything to write home about. I like Beasley Reese and his crew, but only because they're not Eskin and Co., as they've become just unbearable to listen to, especially John Clark. And since baseball season is coming up, the lack of knowledge on Sports Final will be frighteningly apparent.

Every week will be ground-shaking revelations like "Should Manuel be fired?", "The Phils have no true #1 starter", and "Ryan Howard - best ever?"

These guys almost make me wish I had cable.

Word.

Though I don't have to deal with ESPN, so it's a mixed bag.

Only reason I don't have cable - don't have time to watch it. Especially on weekends. Can't justify the purchase, especially not to Mrs. B.

How much is it for Comcast nowadays?

That Zolecki Cat from the Inky flatly denied that Howard gained any weight and said that "He had that last yr" when asked why Ryan has a gut this spring and that he likely hit the buffet circuit too hard this past winter.

So we're all nuts I guess.
