its ridiculous. also, the narrow driving lane between the wall and the building is a nightmare. considering the amount of inebriated, giant-SUV drivin' folks hitting that place up at night, i dont know how they dont have at least two accidents a night.

i've seen cars try to make the turn and just give up and drive away.

oh, the things i've seen...

Coffins to bear logos of baseball teams

Starting next season, fans of the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers will be able to have their ashes put in an urn or head six feet under in a casket emblazoned with their team colors and insignia.

The Phillies urn was the first to be designed. Each urn will feature recognition of the deceased's passionate support, stamped with a message that says "Major League Baseball officially recognizes (person's name) as a lifelong fan of (team)."

How convenient. The Phillies DIE every year trying to win a World Series and now you can die every year along with them for ETERNITY.

SWEET MOTHER GOD.

Can Eagles, Flyers, and 76ers coffins be far behind?

any chance the phils enter the bidding war for that japanese pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka? actually, the question is rhetorical. we all know the answer is a big, fat "no".

its been more than a decade since nomo broke into the league, and the phillies still have yet to bring in an asian player (not counting bruce chen and those two south korean minor league flops)

i believe the phils were the last national league team to have a black player on their roster, and insanely, dropped their latin-american developmental program in the 80's-90's. does this team ever learn from its bleak history and open it's eyes? i'm not saying this guy, or any other asian player is the answer, but it just speaks to the phil's antiquated, short-sighted, stubborn ways that they have never had an asian player or attempted to sign one.

How is Chollie going to communciate with a Japanese pitcher when he barely speaks broken, hillbilly english?

Just felt like a cheap shot.

the irony of that statement, f-d, is that charlie played in japan for quite a few years and would probably be able to relate/communicate with a japanese player better than most.

So much for Moyer moving back to Seattle to be with the wife and kids. Signed a 2 year extension worth 10.5 mil.

That's four out of five starters locked up. Wonder what they'll offer Wolf, if anything.

I guess I'm not in position to question the signing to a 2 year deal of a left-handed pitcher over 40 years old.

It looked like he had some dog shit on his palm. There's a good closeup on ESPNs homepage today. Almost the same brownish-yellowish shade as the TV at Bergey's.

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/sports/15897263.htm

The Washington Post reported yesterday that Soriano is seeking a similar contract to the one Carlos Beltran signed with the New York Mets before the 2005 season, which was for seven years and $119 million. The Phillies could open with a five-year offer for $80 million.

My guess is the Phillies will come just a tad short in their offer.

And then they can say, "See at least we tried."

Also read they are trying to land Sheffield by trading either Floyd or Madson to the Spankees

Which is funny, because every Yanks fan I know was furious that they picked up Sheffield's option. Now they are offering him to the Phils....NTFF.

totally different situations with regard to each team, glenn.

the phillies desperately need a right-handed power bat behind howard. for the yankees stacked lineup, sheffield's bat is ancillary.

two, sheffield has is being forced to play first for the yankees, which he desperately does not want to do. for the phils, he would play outfield (assuming the phils get rid of burrell).

lastly, its just one year. gillick has already said many times he won't spend for free agent pitching, so this may be the best place to use those dollars. plus, sheffield playing on the last year of his contract may be motivated for play well for one last payday at the end of the year.

If Sheffield were worth 13 Million, Yanks fans would have no problem holding onto him. Different teams does not make a big difference here. As long as players outperform their contracts they are worth having. Ask Billy Beane. Sheff is highly, highly unlikely to outperform 13 Million. Hey, if you like Sheffield "I" would be HAPPY to ship you Maggs for just about anyone....

if shef stays healthy, and of course that's big "if", he is immediately a huge upgrade over burrell. again, don't discount the fact this would be his walk year and he will be extra motivated to perform. this also means he will be that much easier to move at the trade deadline if the phils see fit.

i'm not saying i'm in love with the guy, but the phils really need a right-handed bat behind burrell and shef might be a good short-term answer.

regarding outperforming contracts, i have a feeling some team is going to overpay for ramirez. what kind of defense does he play, anyway? not rhetorical, i'm seriously asking.

Aren't they targetting some Korean or Japanese 3rd baseman?

Regarding Ramirez, I don't know what kind of D he plays, but my memeory is he was supposed to be pretty good defensively, but lost it at some point and became a below average 3rd baseman, but I could be waaaay off.

No way the Phillies will land him, though (IMO). Like most baseball players, he picked the "right" year to have career numbers.
