Two things wrong with Madden 09:

The aforementioned Favre cover (guess Madden's still not over his boy not playing anymore and wanted one last tribute); and

They're touting this as the "20th Anniversary Edition". Which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't do the "15th Anniversary Edition" FOUR years ago.

I'm a jerk x2. I bought a used copy of Rock Band ($25) and drums for the PS3 ($50) and a USB mic ($20) and have been playing a bit.

Drums is awesome. Singing is eh. Guitar is wack. It's awesome to slave the drums to my pc when its time to make music tho:

Anyone getting the new Civilization game or the new NCAA?

I'm looking to get the CIV game for the PC. I've been playing that game for years. Skipped CIV III, though.

I guess I'll have to wait to see if they make a PC version.

The new NCAA game is glitched. EA quality testers are like McNabb passes - usually missing the mark.

Seth, the DS is a great system. Not only does it play Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games, but there are some educational games for it (like Brain Age). My buddy and his wife have matching DSes.

Your son will SO not be disappointed.

The DS is worth the money. Lots of games for it, cheap enough, and the kids can replay them.

Also, adults can play different puzzle games. My wife bought a game Curious Village and it has a hundred or so logic puzzles.

The DS is also easy to load in pir8d games.

I played the demo for the new Civ game for PS3. its pretty fun tho i wouldn't pay $55 for it.

Not sure what you mean by "what am I getting myself into". You will find some games very immersive or addicting or both. Depends on what you like. I loved a FEW games on the 360 and played those a ton. Loved Halo 2 (but didn't care for 3). Was insane for Gears of War and played that non-stop (multiplayer) for almost 4 months. Really enjoyed Call of Duty series.

My 360 broke down and I've been too lazy to get it replaced.

I mean as far as games, repairs, etc. Stuff like that. Sounds like I'll need to perform an exorcism on mine, from the sounds of yours.

I'm interested in vids, but I haven't been on top of things, most likely because I didn't own a next-gen system.

Don't buy NCAA 2009.

From what I gathered, the original XBox 360 (and the Elite 360 which had a bigger hard drive and now defunct built-in HD-DVD) had too many transistors and not enough power to support it, along with poor heat dissapation. That caused alot of earlier units to fail (including mine). Microsoft would replace it for free, but I was too lazy to send it in. I was moving around the time of its demise and wasn't interested in unpacking it to repack it in their designated box for the exchange.

On a separate note, we can thank Sony for violence in the Congo. Are you happy now, PS buyers????

Other than hockey, I don't care for sports games. Soccer is ok, but I haven't been able to get into football, never into bball or baseball.

What shoot'em ups or being in large metallic vehicles tearing up the place kinda games are out there for PS3? God of War seemed really cool. But didn't play it....just debating whether I should buy a PS3 and contribute to the violence. I mentioned that my fave game on Xbox was Gears of War. Is there anything comparable on PS3?

My friend has been advising me on what to get. Sony doesn't really have anything close to Gears of War that's exclusive. Resistance is OK (played that over a friend's house), but Call of Duty 4 is so much better. Metal Gear 4 just came out, and everyone seems to think it's a great game.

He also says that there's no better hockey game than NHL 08.

Finally got a 360. Not bad.

And I finally played Madden on the Wii. Quite fun.

On Black Friday, Dell's website is offering an Xbox 360 Arcade console and Rock Band 2 (without instruments) for $199. Not bad.
