Bass... the Fed is supposed to be dropping interest rates again.
If you don't have a home of your own to sell and have a decent amount of coin to put down... it will absolutely be a good time to buy.
Exactly...
If you don't own a property now, the combination of a buyers market and low interest rates should be very attractive to potential buyers with good credit and a reasonable down payment.

We are not hanging it. F knocking out walls.
If that's the case, you can get just about anything.
I like DLP TVs, but I think all the different technologies have their pluses and minuses.
I've had good luck with Samsung TVs, Misubishi, and Sony. I've had bad luck with Toshiba products (in general).
Samsung really seems to make nice TVs at pretty good prices, though.

OK, brief synapsis:
We somewhat "inherited" the property (we're paying on the mortgage, but the house is supposed to be a gift for us for our wedding). We're in the process of getting the names switched, but I'm not sure how long the mortgage is and it's been paid on since 1980. The house, I believe, was one that was built in the 50s or so (it's a rowhome, but I'm not clear on its age).
Anyway, we're looking to move out of Philly (or at least out of our neighborhood) within the next year or 2, and if the guy's right, then now might be a good time to buy. Mostly we're trying to move because we want Bass Jr to be able to go to a good school, and because I've gotten somewhat tired of the city.
I kinda like the LV area (she's from Bethlehem, and I've liked it from the times we've stayed up there for any amount of time), but we're not thinking about moving too far from this area unless the price is right.
So our plan was to sell and buy, but not necessarily in that order, and we're looking for someplace to live in, not somewhere to turn a quick profit.
But I gotta do my homework first, because I refuse to fall into the trap that so many people have fallen into (which it seems, to have come to our advatage).

The impression that I've gotten is that we'll be done paying the mortgage soon (maybe 2 years?) and we looked at this house as great, but the neighborhood not necessarily someplace we want to conitue raising the fam.

I could be wrong all over the place, as well, since the person we got the house from lives near Owego, NY.

The Mitsubishi's look to be more than I want to spend. Samsung is around there but might have to go with a 40". Saw a decent price on an Olevia, I guess they are an emerging brand, not sure if anyone has any feedback there.
It's really tough for me to justify dumping over 2 grand into a TV.

If you have a house and are looking to move, that' a different animal. You're going to have great negotiating power on the new purchase, but you're still stuck taking it up the ass on the old place.
Would you be comfortable paying two mortgages for some time? Would you consider renting the property you'd be leaving behind?
Also, if you decide to go to the LV area, I can give you a realtor recommendation. I'm kinda sketchy on realtors in general, but having someone you trust to at least be a sounding board is always nice.

Two mortgages might not hurt that much, especially if the one is about to be paid off, which would leave paying taxes and insurance on it. Considering we had nothing except an apartment in Logan, I'm happy about getting this much, and I'll probably be happy about selling this house if the price is at least somewhat reasonable.
Figured that either way, it is going to hurt us a bit in the beginning before we got settled down.
I'd like to hear about your realtor.

Maybe someone else can share some experiences, but does anyone have an opinion on the Sony SXRD rear projection? It's not a traditional rear projection (it looks like a DLP), but I found some models cheap and haven't read a bad thing about them. They are either discontinuing the model or replacing it with a new one (they are basically sold out everywhere), but places you don't think of for electronics are sometimes the best places to find these kinds of deals. Check out this one at Sears: 50" Sony SXRD 1080p Rear Projection $1,099 through 3/1 or while supplies last
Here's another one to check out, GGB: 46" Sony Bravia 1080p rear projection LCD $1,299

glenn, for fucks sake, go to circuitcity.com. LG is an excellent brand of LCD tv. no reason to spend 2 grand on a 42 or even a 47 inch tv.

Hey, what can I say, f4f, I watch golf and CBS and David Feherty hawk the shit out of the Mitsubishis.
Ok, what does "rear projection" mean? Is it bad thing?

Rear projection just means the light is being projected from the back of the TV to the screen.
The old rear projection TVs were the "big screens", but the process is still used in some LCD TVs and all DLP TVs. There's no downside I'm aware of other than they can't be wall mounted.
The SXRD seems like a new application of the straight "big screen" format, which is interesting. i just don't know much about them because I didn't know they even existed anymore.

f4f, for fuck's sake I went to circuitcity.com and they had 6 LGs listed in total. Only 2 of them in the size we want, one of them was 720, the one that was 1080 was 47" and cost $1800. For fuck's sake.
