I just love when people play the "all use isn't abuse" card. The way they take the suggestion that it might be is so telling.

At least GGB mans up and admits that he is a drunk (or otherwise)

and you wonder why you're told to lighten up.

Some mental illness sufferers attempt to correct their illnesses by use of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, or other mind-altering drugs.

While this may provide immediate relief of some symptoms such as anxiety, it may evoke and/or exacerbate some symptoms of several kinds of mental illnesses that are already latently present, and may lead to addiction/dependence, among other side effects of long-term use of the drug.

I love how some people play the "everything is denial" card.

I can't smoke weed anymore, not just because I'm a Christian, but it makes me seriously anxious and paranoiud.

Actually KB, denial is a 12-stepper's favorite term. I was using it in the same way an AA zealot would to nudge Neag.

I called it abouse because GGB was talking about recreationally using prescription drugs.

Pot heads of the world unite! We are not drug abusers!

Interesting the thread topic changes completely from the discussion of the culpability of chos’ parents to a 700level 12 step meeting.

So I guess the big question here is does GGB feel he's a drunk/alcholic and if so does he feel he needs professional help

I still don't see why recreationally using prescription drugs is automatically abuse. No Munch, that doesn;t mean I do it.

Drugs are drugs. You can either use them without abusing them or you can't. Pot, alcohol, Coke & Xanax - all drugs.

Laugh if you want, but a strange sense of props is owed GGB in my book for realistically stating in a dead sober state, that he in fact IS an alchoholic.

I mean, there's absolutely NO denial there- no attempts to change the behaviors are promised or hinted at, attempted- it is what it is.

He doesnt miss work.

He has a relationship and Id think that his use of pharmies and the bottle are well known and obviously not an issue (for now perhaps, who knows?).

He is reliable - granted most times he's called to be somewhere, it is to meet up and drink/watch a sporting event- but he doesn't leave you hangin'.

He's not an overweight, shiftless slob who lacks hygeine.

I mean, pretty cut and dry, functional alchoholic really. If he's fine w/ it, and feels it doesnt impact his life in any ill manner, why should anyone else give a fat rat's ass?

Abuse means to use wrongly or improperly Dino. It doesn't always mean over use.

Plus there is a big red flag that goes up if you are of the mindeset to take prescription stuff to get high.

Don’t forget about tobacco being addicting also.

If GGB is ok with it Seth, then the discussion can't go any further.

I guess I just don't see the point of differentiating between prescription & non.

Actually Ive seen him toast his alcholism with a shot of Rumple- so yeah, I think he's fine with it.

It isn’t a concrete thing. “Recreational” users are 90% of the time using alcohol or pot. Could someone use a prescription drug for recreational use? Sure, but I guarantee you that there aren’t a lot of those people. There are always exceptions, but trends are pretty accurate.

fair enough, I will admit that you probably know a whole lot more about the topic than I.

People who just love to drink and have no ill effects from it never make the connection in their head that they are an "alcoholic".

To make that statement you need a reason. Something like they tried to stop drinking but they can't. Nobody makes that claim if they are 100% ok with it.
