Picked up a couple recently. On KB's recommendation I got Devil in the White City. Have yet to start it.
Also picked up The Israel Lobby. So far so good. It makes points that I have maintained for years. Not finished yet, but I recommend it for every F.L.A. American. Pollardites can read it to, but I'm sure they will be furious.

F.L.A. American
I'm not familiar with this- is this a synonym for "militant"?

I have heard from about four or five people (KB not included) that "Devil in the White City" is one of the best books they've ever read. One even said it was THE best. That might be what I read next.
Recently I finished "Candide" by Voltaire and "The Remains of the Day" by Ishiguro, both of which were excellent.
Now reading "V." by Thomas Pynchon, which is pretty demented so far. Anyone here read anything by this guy?

"the crying of lot 49" back in college, but i dont remember much about it.
NEAG, saw that book on the isreali lobby in the book store a couple weeks ago and thought of you. i actually almost got it but went with "under the banner of heaven" on SZR's recommendation instead - so far, very good.

Read a couple good non-fictions at in OBX last week.
American Brutus: John Wilkes Booth and the Lincoln Conspiracies by Michael Kauffman. Very interesting and informative read. I learned quite a bit I didn't know about the whole story including the fact that Booth did NOT break his leg jumping to the stage but well after on his escape.
Crazy Diamond: Syd Barrett & The Dawn Of Pink Floyd by Mike Watkinson & Pete Anderson.
A true rock & roll casualty.

agreed. one of the points that the books claims (just from reading the dust jacket) is that the current state of the lobby not only hurts the US but israel as well, so there really is no reason to go into that book with anything less than an open mind, regardless of your position.
i have a lot on my plate in the next few months but hopefully i will get a chance to read it sooner than later.

Now I'm 1/3 into another WWII based book called "Ghost Soldiers". It's about one of the first ever Army Ranger's missions. Their assignment was to liberate the American POWs who survived the Bataan Death March.
Powerful quote at the end of that book, Johnson. Read it 5 years ago.....reread it about 2 years ago.

I read that too. That's really good as well. Guy is a heck of a writer. I mean, who cares about the history of the wireless transmitter.

Last night I finished "V." by Pynchon, which was a fascinating head-fuck. It was a lot like watching a David Lynch movie. I'm so intrigued by this author I'm reading all of his other novels in chronological order. Next up is "The Crying of Lot 49".

Neag, if that's your criteria, then you should avoid anything by Elie Weisel.

that's a pretty strong statement. he certainly miscalculated and was arrogant about what it took to survive in the alaskan wilderness, to be sure.
i thought the book and movie were fantastic. really interesting getting into the background of a smart, college-educated upper middle class kid who basically choose the opposite path from everyone else in his position.
