F_B, first of all, bringing up the difference between "inherent" and "cultural" is not nitpicking. there's a fundamental difference.

secondly, are you really suggesting that the problem of violent black culture could be solved is some white folks went down to the rec center to volunteer? i would suggest a better solution might be black leaders in the community less interested in their own polarizing self interests (sharpton, j.jackson) or absolving vick of his crimes (NAACP) and more interested in having the black community take some responsibility for the state of urban culture. leaders who are interested in bridging the cultural divide instead of widening it.

reading the NAACP's view of micheal vick today made me realize we are as far away from this as ever, and that's the real shame - and nothing that's going to be corrected by white people voluteering to be "big brothers"

Which proves my point that the line seems to be getting blurred a bit more in AA community. I realize those guys were all "victims", but I gotta think there is at least a smidge of "live by/die by" in one or more of those cases. Goddammit Flesh- how many times do I have to repeat myself? I used "inherent" as it was stated in several previous related threads? In my mind, the use of the word "cultural" to describe the violence of inner cities is just as fallible. Of course they aren't synonyms, but their irrelvance to describe urban violence is equally wrong!

Blacks do NOT have a more historically violent culture than any other race. Why is it so hard for you to comprehend this? It is the economic plight that drives the vilence, not their "inherent nature" nor their "culture". Black culture is that of nubian kingdoms, the blues of the north and south, etc. If you can't understand this simple point, than I don't see any reason for me to try to continue to explain it to you.

And to respond to Glenn-

Give titles as you want-those entertainers didn't have as much dough as some of those gangsters. And having money didn't stop them from illegality, it was ingrained from their upbringing, and the only way to end that cycle is to improve the quality of life of children in those urban centers. It benefits not just those living there, but the whole of society at large. I'm also saying that the economics dictate behavior more than race. What about the IRA? What about Bosnia-Serb conflicts? What about the lawlessness in Brazilian ghettos? Death squads. Asian triads. In Europe. The Middle East. All over. To say that American urban violence is a "culture" of blacks, is absurd. It's a reflection of social and economic trends.

So I do have some experience in that area.
