Jena 6 Protest

Ah, the latest strong-arm tactic.

I am sure there will be a peacable protest if the kid is found guilty whatsoever.

Like it or not, hanging a noose on a high school grounds is nothing more than an expression, deplorable or not, and can't be classified as a "Hate Crime". However, beating and stomping someone and sending them to the hospital is NOT an expression, and if the same principles were EVER applied COULD be classified as a "Hate Crime" given the subjects involved (not that I am advocating hate crime prosecution, I think it's stupid).

Brutal, they are bussing people in from all over the f'ing Country.

Yet another publicity stunt by The Good Reverends to obfuscate the real problems facing the people they are supposed to represent.

Glenn- I don't think the reason people are mad is because they think they're guilty- it's because they were charged with attempted murder (trumped up) and the fact that the one kid had his conviction overturned yet he's still in jail.

I also have heard that this started as a grass roots (bloggers) movement, and the Revs just jumped on after it had already gained momentum.

Maybe the attempted murder charge was due to the fact that it was SIX on ONE?

If it were 6 white kids on one black kid it they would be screaming for the harshest charges possible.

come on!

I don't necessarily disagree, F_B, my point is that his mob reaction is really attempting to free the kids altogether. You think they peaceably disperse if/when they announce the reduced charges and that the kids will be doing 3 years each?

I expect this is going to go REALLY well. $500 says every major news outlet already has a pre-written script for how they'll address the riot with blank slots for names, dates, and times.

As usual, violent criminals think they can weasel out of their actions with the race card and everyone who missed the civil rights movement (yeah...that would have been a BLAST) feels they have to make it up with unwarranted moral outrage.

I have no clue what's fair or not fair in this situation, but I can tell you that turning into into a racial issue, organizing protests, calling the NAACP, and bringing in the Revs is the last thing you want to do.

Now, instead of working the channels quietly and trying to get their point across to people that matter, they've created an impossible situation for the legal system: Appear racist or appear to go easy on any violent criminal as long as they are black and the Revs cry racism.

The whole situation is so fucking dumb and the impending riot is going to do more to enforce negative stereotypes in people predisposed to them anyway. Their methods are counterproductive.

I see what you mean...

I wholeheartedly detest mobs- except when I'm in one of them and there's free flatscreens involved

So- I'm guessing that you think it's fair to sentence high school kids to jail for 22 years for beating another kid up? You ever been in a fight, or seen a beating f-d? Happens ALL the time in high school- it's a part of life and growing up. Just stating the elephant in the room.

I've never ganged up with 5 other friends and kicked an unconscious kid in the head repeatedly.

Assuming that's normal high school behavior is insane.

Further, if not for the teachers, the kid would have died. This is about punishing the kids and sending a message. It's also about their previously VIOLENT CRIMINAL RECORDS.

Now that I've heard "Twista" and "Killer Mike" held a benefit concert for them, I'm going to give it more thought.

9 times out of 10, Killer Mike reads people well and if he's on board I have to reconsider my positon.

Maybe, like the cops in the Rodney King case, those kids felt "threatened"

Don't lose your mind, f-d- I'm being facetious.

I know...

I'm not even going to pretend that racism isn't alive and well in LA. I know for a fact that it is.

What I'm saying is these kids are morons, they are violent, they are criminals, and they acted in a way that put them in a position to be in deep, deep shit.

I'm not going to absolve 17 and 18 year old kids with criminal records of this crime.

Hell...if they go free in a couple months, what kind of citizens do we think they'll be?

- Young
- Angry
- No diploma
- No jobs prospects
- Violent criminal activity in background
- Sense of moral outrage and system corruption
- Irresponsible agendas of civil rights groups enforcing a martyr mentality

Anyone want to take any guesses on their career path?

Why did these victims feel the need to axe school administration if they could stand under the tree?

Because they'd been told by the white kids "this is the white kid tree, no n*ggers over here"?

That's the other thing. The "Deep South" angle. This thing happens in Washington State and Sharpton is still sipping Mai Tais in Maui on the dime of all the Congregations he pilfers funds from.

I wonder if Sharpton and Jesse the J are, at the same time, there to protest this flaw in the legal system:

"The all-white jury was selected because none of the 350 blacks in LaSalle Parish who were called for jury duty showed up."

Dallas Morning News

Unlike most of the other media, actually pretty good account in that article.
