I think that was the coldest I've ever been at a tailgate. If not for the tent/heat source you guys had set up, I might have been discovered when the lot thawed out a couple weeks later.

I had to walk about 6 blocks up the street to a friend's house that day to borrow a snow shovel, then 6 blocks back to return it. Then 6 blocks back to actually watch the game, then 6 blocks back at roughly a .25 BAC after the Pats/Steelers game, a walk I remember just about none of.
During the first 3 walks that I remember, I recall thinking that you guys that had gone to that game/tailgate were the most Batshit crazy motherfuckers I had ever encountered.
Seth has done very little to disprove that in the time since.
I would not have gone to that game, that day, in those conditions if it were Michigan vs. Notre Dame or OSU for the National Title and I had Jessica Simpson and Eva Longoria waiting to double-team me afterwards.

That tailgate/game was great. I doubt I'd want to do it again anytime soon, but there was something about the massive piles of snow, carved out ice urinal, grill, chili, tents, etc. that just made it one of a kind.
When we left for the game at about 6am or so, 2/3 of the roads and highways hadn't even been plowed yet. The whole day was an experience.
I will never forget how numb my toes were, though. I took every precaution I could think of and they were still frozen rock solid before the game ever started.

From the my novella about Coaching in Sweden:
Jan 23 06 – 1st anniversary of NFC Title game. I can’t believe it’s been a year since going to the game. I had to cook for the tailgate. Shrimp, bay scallops and mussels over fettucine in a lemon caper sauce. Because I brought the pasta down hot in a cooler, Barry didn’t have to fire up the grill. That meant he didn’t get to use his “Special” starter fluid, old lawnmower gas kept in a milk jug. He just labeled the jug “Old” gas. We told him it should be “Vintage” or “Retro” gas. He’s pretty generous with it and has set fire to the grass, tarmac, concrete and dirt on different occasions.
Because of the snow, the drive down was treacherous. It was so bad, I didn’t get the traditional Krispy Kremes on the way. I-95 was down to 2 random lanes that had nothing to do with the painted lines. By the time I got to the FU lot, the snow was starting to taper off. I tried to find our normal area, but the City had plowed it under. Skip hailed me down (seconds before I ran him over) and showed me where we were. Jay, Barry and Stewie had dug a hollow out of the snow bank. We had a private little grotto, complete with a trashcan fire (courtesy of the city trashcan I had “liberated” from in front of Bravo’s Pizza) and Pisser Tom’s bathroom (2x3s, a tarp, & a 5 gallon bucket).
We ended up with more than the expected 27. About 10 more. We only had enough food for 30-35, so some of the guys trekked over to CVS and bought hot dogs. They were cooked on a shovel blade over the fire.
Every Birds fan knows the details of the game, so I’ll skip them. I wore a bowler to the game, not very warm, but good for stashing 2 beers in. Before the game, I bought a game pin. They make different ones for each game, and since this was going to be my last game for a long time, I wanted a souvenir. I also bought a Boddingtons Ale. Since we were ahead at Halftime, I repeated the process for luck (had a hard time tracking down another Boddingtons).
A girl in front of me brought balloons and confetti. With around 7 minutes left, she started to tentatively toss them around. About 5 of us told her to stop, lest she jinx the Birds. Superstitious cowards, all. After the post-game ceremony, I grabbed some of the confetti the Eagles showered the field with and headed back to the tailgate.
All the guys were already drinking champagne. I went to my trunk and brought out my contribution. A bottle of Maker’s Mark bourbon with green and silver sealing wax. I also had about 30 shot glasses. I called for quiet. I had retired as “Consigliere” the year before, but most of the new guys still thought of it as “Kevin’s tailgate” (Barry is, and always will be, “The Don”). I filled everyone’s glass, spoke about how much they all meant to me and how it had been a pleasure to run the tailgate for 9 years. We threw back the sweetest bourbon ever, there were hugs all around, then I drove home.
The pin, confetti, shot glass and game ticket are in a wood and glass display case in our living room. It will always be my most treasured piece of sports memorabilia.

Fågelpojke, Thanks for sharing that. In a thread that's become a "remember the NFCCG of 04 Tailgate thread"- that was a truly great tale that was heretofore, unknown.
Love how you saved momentos and still have em today. Great stuff.

My most vivid memories begin on the eve of the '04 NFCCG. I recall the continuous accumulation of snowfall during the afternoon into the early evening and the heightened anxiety of Mrs. Dean-o worrying aloud, “How are we going to make it to the game?” We didn’t sleep well that night. The combination packing the vehicle with gear that only a resourceful “Macgyver” could put to use, the concerns of our forthcoming travels, parking spot availability and of course the anticipation of the Eagles playing in the NFCCG just wasn’t conducive to sleeping.
We left our home quite early in the morning. It may have been sometime around 5:00 or 5:30 am, but that certainly wasn’t the earliest departure we ever encountered. At least one previous NFCCG had Seth and I lined up first at the entrance gate as early as 2:00 am mugging for TV cameras. Anyway, on this day we couldn’t have been on the road for more than 15 minutes when our cell rang, … it was Seth asking if we left yet and proceeded to describe the scene at the parking lot. The anticipation from hearing everything that he was saying prompted me to want to accelerate “just a little bit more” so we could arrive quicker. For all intents and purposes, the secondary roads, which we traveled, were still unplowed. The travel was treacherous in spots, which only enabled us to travel at a top speed of about 35 MPH.
When arrived from Rt.95 onto the Broad Street exit ramp and nearly immediately spotted Seth, DGB, Monty and few other regular levelers. Cars, trucks, RVs, were lined up three and four across, with an occasional city dump truck urging parked vehicles to move to the side for snow removal. It was controlled, but it was a mess. And I have to admit that the usually raucous tailgaters were somewhat at ease; even courteous to a point if I dare to say. Once the lot opened up the scene began to take shape of an old western land grab. We did manage to secure our usual tailgating spot and immediately commenced on “setting up camp” amidst the piles of plowed snow. Shoveling out parking spaces, plotting where to park and where to erect the canopy(s), tearing gear out of the vehicles, … man it was friggin cold! I have to admit that in the end I believe we outdid ourselves. With those side-by-side canopies wrapped in plastic and two heaters continually blasting away we managed to maintain a toasty 60 degrees. (Maybe the temperature didn’t reach 60, but the combination of the heaters, hoards of guests and alcohol had a warming affect.) I couldn’t even begin to recall the names of everyone that stopped by to greet us throughout the course of that day, but we saw many a leveler that made the trip from much farther distances than we did.
Unlike the previous year’s ’03 NFCCG, entering the stadium had somewhat of a different feel than the previous year. It just seemed that this time around a win was finally meant to be. Hell, upon entering the Linc, Mrs. Dean-o uncharacteristically grabbed Hooky and I by our arms and said, “Lemme buy you boys a beer for the game.” (I never drink inside the stadium for two reasons, … sober up time and I’m too friggin cheap.) But this would turn out to be a special event. And even though the beer had turned to slush before the opening kickoff, I’ll always have fond memories of those small events that culminated into one very special day that will never be duplicated.

Dear clueless person who works in my department,
I have no idea how you keep doing it, but you did it again. Somehow, you managed to fry your THIRD computer in as little as 2 months. While I would really like to spend all of my working hours making sure that your technologically-challenged mind comprehends what you've done, and while I do enjoy all those hours lost on reformatting your machine instead of doing less important work (like preparing for a meeting that will impact the department for years), I must admit that I am baffled. Even the biggest tekkie jinx wouldn't have been able to fry three computers in such a short amount of time, so I am impressed. Even more impressed when I looked at your resume.
So please, don't stop what (and who) you're doing. You're giving me job security.
Best Regards,
Me
PS - Just because you spend a lot of time on your knees doesn't mean......ah screw it, I can't go any further.

That's the thing - outside of the office, she probably wouldn't get a second look.
There are rumors circulating about her all the time, and I tend to think there's some truth in them. I mean, she's a secre.....I mean, an Administrative Assistant, and she can't even type a memo. And yet someone pined for a raise for her. You tell ME what's going on here.

I have some experience here, try to speak to her (always keeping in mind Plausible Deniability) in a generally surprised and condascending tone at some of the things she cannot do, but always try to make it appear more of the former, even though in reality it's more of the latter.
"You don't know how to do a PIVOT TABLE!!?!!? Oh, wow, I thought everyone knew that, here let me show you...".

I always hate the "sorta" hot POA when allowing for environment that gets overly much attention. Whereas, in the real world, she'd barely be commented upon. Several older guys I work with you'd think have never seen pussy live even if it were on pirated porn that you gave them.
I once, in a fit of disbelief and frustration, told a powerful colleague off after he told me how smart this female resident was.....to say she is retarded would be unfair, but to say she is operating at maximal capacity to generate minimal competence would be polite. Anwyay, I remember saying it clearly after he told me, "no, she's really smart and conscientious". My response: "Don't let pussy cloud your mind. Please. Call a spade a spade and a dumbass a retard." To this day he's still pissed off at me three years later.

Funny stuff, Jules.
As an update -
What she did was download a screen saver that had spyware on it. She's doing stuff like this all the time (which is why she's on her FOURTH PC now), but she honestly has no clue about spyware and all that stuff, which I find a little hard to believe.
If anything, her comp houses sensitive materials, so the fact that she's eagerly allowing other people to access her files is just as believable as her eagerly allowing people to access her files.
I mean, it's bad. She can't even properly write a memo. A MEMO! And she got offended at me for calling her a jinx. I guess in her world that's somehow more insulting than "zipper dipper".

Dear NY Giants,
THANK YOU very much for this playoff run. You have no idea how much money it makes a NY bartender.
Dear Giants fans,
Even though I was wearing a Giants jersey (with Eagles t shirt underneath for protection) I secretly despise each and every one of you drunken fools. Thanks for the tips and for falling for the fake cheering and hi-fives.
See all you suckers again in 2 weeks!
