I'm going to Amsterdam from Nov 16-21. Anyone ever been? Got spots to recommend? Got spots to avoid?

I was there way back in 1995.
Hope they've cleaned it up by now, b/c the place was filthy.
Have fun.

Funny trivia fact:
It is legal for an American to smoke hash in Amsterdam.
It is ILLEGAL for an American to smoke a Cuban cigar in Amsterdam.
So I recommend the hash.

A friend of mine went over there for a couple weeks and I didn't hear from him after he returned and I wondered why. After a month or so I saw him and asked him how was Amsterdam. He said he had fun right up until he contracted a "flesh-eating virus".
Be careful, funky.

Contrary to popular belief, there is much more to do in Amsterdam than just smoke weed. Just remember, a Cafe serves coffee, but a Coffee Shop serves pot.
Do NOT waste your time with the Heineken tour. I know several people who have done it and all say it is a waste. The art museum is top notch as is the Van Gogh museum. A "must" that is a downer, but a "must" nonetheless is the Anne Frank house.
Overall, it is a great city and very, very easy to get around. Very small and easy to walk. Trolley is convenient.

F_B, that's frigging weird. Some guy that runs my brother's suicide pool was there for his honeymoon, and is in the hospital with a virus they can't place.

pace yourself and stick to smokables ... edible treats often are totally bunk or they knock you on your ass for a day and a half.
i agree, the heinekin tour was kind of a waste, plus it's a terrible beer, so it's a lose/lose.
everyone also makes a big deal about the "pancakes" - basically, crepes, in a million different. i was unimpressed, but i'm one of about five humans on the planet that was repulsed by most of the food in europe, so what do i know.
have fun while you can, because there is a lot of talk about moving away from a lot of the "progressive" customs that have made the city famous.
just remember, you dont have to smoke all the hash, eat all the mushrooms and bang all the prostitutes on the first day...

If a resident of Philly says that another city is "filthy", that's quite a statement.
