Is there anyone out there that thinks that he won't be convicted? I hear they're saying it's a slam dunk if the Feds take you to task. And is there anyone that isn't happy for Hammerin' Hank?

I'm torn because I hate Bonds and would like to watch him burn.

HOWEVER, everybody was doing it and I no longer understand how they can single him out.

I also have a Bonds autographed Pirates hat and I'm not sure which way it's more valuable.

Yeah I heard on the radio that federal indictments have something like a 95% conviction rate.

I hope he gets a maximum sentence. Not because of the roids, but because he is an A-hole.

I don't consider this part a witch hunt, b/c he was the only one that lied to the grand jury, and that's serious business. Giambi admitted to using roid's, and several other players, whose names weren't released. This happened about 2 years ago probably. They had to get enough evidence to prove he lied to them.

If Victor Conte only got a year for creating and distributing illegal steroids, in fairness, Bonds should get about an hour in jail and be done with it.

Well you can make that case for about 99% of the cases they go after. I think a witch hunt entails going after someone unfairly. They're going after a guy that is guilty.

I don't know what you propose they do, drop the case b/c there are bigger problems? People will just start lying to grand juries then, and know they can get off b/c the government has bigger fish to fry.

I think the Feds and Prosecutors in general are just getting a little fed up with the notion that people can just lie whenever they are confronted with something, even if they are before a Grand Jury. And maybe they wanna make an example of someone on a National Stage.

He had the chance when first brought up on charges to admit it and move on. Instead, he lied and kept an investigation open longer, which wasted money.

Plus, he's a succesful black athlete, we know that whenever possible, we, in our role as The Man, need to do our best to bring them down.

BTW, they had most of the evidence against him through the Conte investigation. I bet they wanted to nail down a couple strong witnesses. I wouldn't be surprised if Conte himself is a witness here. So, I doubt they spent additional millions doing this. The evidence they had was pretty strong.

I don't think it was his ego...I think he was just trying to protect his legacy.

You should read "Game of Shadows". His ego was out of control at this point. His legacy was already tainted by now, b/c all the Conte stuff was coming out. He was just a friggin egomaniac asshole during this.

I was discussing this with a friend last night. If they could get ironclad evidence on Mac, Sosa, and Bonds they should reset the 1-year record to 61. It's funny that nobody, NOBODY thought of it at the time, all we heard about was the "creatine" and "anhydro" in Mac's locker. Everybody blamed it on the diluted pitching staffs due to expansion and smaller ballparks.
