Nice to see the US stills leads the civilized world in crazy-ass white guys who go on shooting sprees. How come (with the exception of VTech & the DC Sniper) almost all of these sick bastards are white?

Quite possibly it's something inherent in their culture- or maybe it's genetic. Look at the history of white people. They wiped out the the Indians. Enslaved the brown and yellow peoples. Created the atom bomb. Made war on the Muslim in the name of God. And killed off the dodo bird. They're inherently violent and I for one am all for building large croc-filled moats surrounded by gun turrets in order to keep them in the suburbs where they belong.

I'm IN for that.

White people, BY AND LARGE- not all- have it easier in a LOT of arenas (fair or not, whether you think it's earned or unearned is another thread(s) .

So I think that they in essence create their own 'drama' or excitement if you will.
Typical middle class kid, suburbia, has a lot of advantages- nice school, involved parents, good clothes, a future in sight and the importance of one likely including higher education stressed by parents, loving home, all appears normal.
These types tend to (knowingly or unknowingly) create a problem or adversity for themselves. So do the parents. Whites in general do this. They subconciously need something to dwell on, or have as adversity etc, or a thrill. Think about who makes up the majority of Paragliders, bunjee jumpers etc? Needless thrill seeking. See many minorities wishin they could do that? Heck no- enuff of a challenge just makin it out there everyday. Anyway- back to my take on white suburbia and the youth who shoot up people.

Feeling bored, or empty, or any other of the emotions that Ive heard family or friends cite as predominant feelings they're experiencing or experienced can lead to outside stimulations to try to satisfy this longing (another tie in to another thread someday about people seeking SOMETHING and not knowing what it is- and how these people after finding Christianity finally say they feel whole)
When it happens in the adult- it could be sudden abusive patterns of substances, an affair, perhaps something work i.e.- becoming married to the job and letting other comitments at home suffer- all of which COULD give way to; children acting out.

Kids are more likely to get off track if there's less parental control right? We say it all the time when we point to the cities and how the lack of a father figure is largely to blame. Whats the diference (other than amenities provided) if your Dad is living there with you but never home? What if your Mother feels largely neglected, or is just a pampered selfish individual who needs to stave off age etc by validating her attractiveness by sleeping with diferent tennis pros or personal trainers- or likes the anxiety pills?

Kids of even 'normal/stable' suburban (WHITE) homes tend to dwell on the aspects of adolesence and growing up and blow em up into bigger issues for lack of any REAL issues that would otherwise preoccupy a teens mind. They're not bein pressured to join a gang, they're not forced to work a job for 6 hours after high school just so they can keep the electricity on, but man, you shoulda heard how the parents came down on him for the C-'s he brought home, and the NERVE to take away his I-pod and his cell, and no CAR FOR A WEEK?! Who the F are they?!

Contrived issues born of a subconcious need to have to have something to focus angst/anger at.
I think angst is a natural hormonal part of growin up. In urban settings it manifests itself towards authority, Cops, those who seemingly have plenty.
In the land of the plenty, it's about status in a school, self image and self esteem. Get a kid with shaky self esteem for whatever reason (Bullying? Sure fire catalyst), and add in ANY of the stuff above, and Id say you have a potential for a bad day at the old H.S.

White people don't wanna say that it's anything more than a fluke, a 'bad kid', but thats so that they needn't look in the mirror and realize that the role of a parent is an IMMENSE one and its not just your W2 that qualifies you as a good parent. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT POVERTY- Ive said it all along. Its about involvement. White people can play the role of the Ostrich better than ANY SINGLE RACE OUT THERE.

I think the notion of "creating their own drama" goes even deeper than that. I think that for the majority of white folks (or kids), the urbane lifestyle you talked about can lead to the danger of being lost in a sea of mediocrity. Like you said, that empty feeling of being one insignificant minnow in a sea of millions leads to it's own type of hopelessness.

You just have your nutjobs nowadays - guys who would normally fly under the radar and cry in their pillows like men over stuff like this happening, but have been bolstered by the "make ya famous" image that the media has no problems putting out there.

The recent rash of killers kind of have the same thing in common - a need to be recognized, a desire to have their mark placed on society post-mortem. Even those knuckleheads who sold people's identities have created a furor to where they're more famous now than they were when they were robbing people blind. It's nauseating.

Hence, the "I'll be famous" angle.

It's an attempt to validate their own self- worth, in a sick, twisted way- when all evidence points to medocrity and emptiness.
