Since most of us won't get to vote in a meaningful primary, I thought it might be interesting to do a level survey. Pick one Democrat AND one Republican that you would vote for in a general election regardless of their realistic chance of winning.
Dem: Obama. Won't vote for Hillary mainly because we need to break the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton rut. Obama is a candidate of change (he hasn't been around long enough to be business as usual.) I don't trust Edwards even a little bit. Strikes me as phony. I kind of like Richardson and Biden but both seem to have a tendency to say stupid crap out if the blue. So Obama it is.
Republican: Ron Paul. The ONLY Republican that offers real change and the only anti-war candidate on the Republican side. He may be bordering on batshit insane, but I like him. The 80% of what I agree with him on outweighs the 20% I don't.
Time's yours.

Me neither, more same ol', same ol'.
Paul is too retarded to take seriously. Besides his "anti-war" stance (which is really just isolationism, something I think needs to be looked at on a case by case basis), he has too many other stupid ideas

Agree with KB. I watched Ron Paul on MTP last weekend. He is an idiot.

I swear it has almost no basis in logic, I will take Edwards and Thompson, I guess.
As long as it's not Hillary or Romney, I will be content enough.

McCain is a neocon. Do you want more of the same?

Yes. Further, I think that Olmert and Netanyahu should pretty much sit in on, if not outright run our National Security meetings.

I've never thought of McCain as a neo-Con. He's also shown the ability to change his mind on something once different facts are brought to light.
Besides, this is just for the primary, I wouldn't be voting for him for president.

I don't think of McCain as a Neo-con either although her certainly shares some of their ideology.

You get the feeling that McCain is not beholden to corporate masters or the military-industrial complex. Of all candidates besides Paul and Kucinich, he seems to have the most integrity.

Isn't "integrity" just a buzzword used in campaigns? I mean, what the hell do we know about any of these candidates' integrity?

These candidates don't just fall out of the sky. You can make educated assumptions based on their whole career.

Not really, b/c a lot of time things are hidden or kept quiet until they run for president. It's not worth spending money on a smear campaign on every congressman

I lost a little respect for McCain's "integrity" when he cozied up to Falwell last year.

What I mean by integrity is voting for what you believe in and not talking out of both sides of your mouth just to get elected, or blowing whichever the wind is blowing like Hillary or Romney. And voting records are all public.

Ah, I was thinking in the context of NEAG's example.
Also, find me someone outside of AE that has looked at each candidate's voting record for his or her career. Everyone just goes off public image/persona.

"NEAG, was that ever confirmed?"
Here's the local rap on this, none of it concrete, just local talk....
He did get a chick from NY pregnant. SHe used to work on his campaign.
One of his former top aids has taken credit for here pregnancy, he is also married.
Edwards campaign is paying for here to live in upscale neighborhood down the street from Edwards house in Chapel Hill.
Edwards wife may not have cancer and is using it a political tool.
The worst part of Edwards is that when he was a Senator here, he missed over 70% of all votes while in office. He is nothing more than ambulance chasing lawyer who will use anything or anybody for his own gain.
