I remember in the early 2000's when Fredericks would do the shift after Flyers games. He would always start the show by keeping track of the hits thrown by Eric Desjardins. Most of the time, it was 0 and he would always mock him for it.

Fredericks is probably the only sports talk host I have ever heard openly talk about his struggles with drugs on the air.

One of my favorite things he did was shoot down any caller or cut them off when it appeared they were going to do an Eagles chant on the air. He was also known for telling people "Please don't call my show to make hypothetical trades. They're not going to happen."

Agreed. That show pretty much was the only thing I listened to regularly on WIP, now, then, or whenever.

"Give 'em the snappy close Steve..."

"....seeya."

"BANG!"

Loved the Field of 64 that he & Mike would do back in the day.

RIP Steve-o.

People should be talking about the firemen who were killed as heroes, not junkies like dirtball Steve Fredericks

And we'll get right on that as soon as you start a "hero obit thread"

I think it's pretty clear which thread he'll deserve. And I don't even like the Band

"This is really going to increase the value of my autographed Lenny Homes guitar", said Nobody.

It would count if the entire "Band" died, IMO.

Liked him on the The $10,000 Pyramid, and Bandstand.

Also when he went on the Howard Stern Show.

Levon Helm really had one crazy boomerang of a career. The first time I ever saw him was shortly after moving to NYC. A friend from CA was opening for a run-of-the-mill Dead cover band called The Electrix in the upstairs room of some Irish pub in Bayridge, Brooklyn. To my surprise, Levon Helm sat in with the headliner. Times had obviously gotten tough for him.

Then he came out of bankruptcy court with a plan to host "Midnight Rambles" in his Woodstock barn/studio. While these were not cheap shows at $150 a pop, they were incredible events. Only 150 people fit in the intimate space, and it was amazing to see Levon and some top flight talent perform in what felt like his living room. The atmosphere was great, too, with them encouraging tailgating, allowing people to constantly run out to their cars to refill beverages and hosting a community table where everyone brought potluck food items.

A couple of years ago, I saw him play a set at Jazz Fest that will forever be remembered as one of the all-time greats. When he came to the edge of the stage to play mandolin on "Deep Ellum Blues," he was having such a blast that he sat back on his stool and started kicking out his legs in a wild motion. (See it here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/photos/levon-helm-through-the-years-20120417/new-orleans-jazz-and-heritage-festival-0268097 ) Then he came to edge of the stage and started churnin' the butter. It was hilarious. It was strange. It was joyous.

It was totally Levon.

Rest in peace.

Self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Hmm......that's not the first place I'd shoot if I were trying to end it all.....

one theory is that he wanted his brain to remain intact so they could analyze it for chronic concussion syndrome (or whatever the official name is).
