As I've stated before, because I don't listen to country/folk/bluegrass (have NOT seen an ep of Hee Haw, ftr), this doesn't make me some kind of anti-bluegrass politician or whatever. I'm annoyed because you put this comment out there:

In all seriousness, I am absolutely amazed at how the (seemingly) majority of folks on here are not only ignorant of pretty basic cultural icons, but proud of it.

The Tea Party is calling, Fred, Lyte, f_dallas, NEAG, Bass.

They LOVE people who write off entire segments of culture.

As if I were just writing it off like it didn't matter. And I know we're not talking about KB's band of the week (Fourth Stomach from the Left or Bullet of Education or whatever), but my musical journeys don't take me where that music is commonplace. Shoot, I'm just getting to the point where some places I've been playing are more accepting of groups like Skillet and Pillar.

Guy was obviously a very famous celebrity even if you havent heard of him (I have)

And I've never argued against this. I've just said "I've never heard of him" and somehow this makes me lose points

Im just surprised f-d has heard of John Coltrane.

Absolutely...I've oft heard him referred to as the Dom Wonton of Jazz.

BTW, the level count appears to be roughly 50/50 on whether they've heard of this guy or not. Pretty poor for a "celebrity", IMO.

I'm pretty much on level with bass on this, it's not that I didn't know the dude, but the emphatic outrage that he wasn't globally known. If you don't listen to folk/country music, you probably didn't know who he was prior to his passing. If you did you get to be the level Sheldon for the day.

Also Seth, sorry to hear WVUD missed their radiothon goal of $40k, maybe it's time for a programming change? The only classical station out here (KUSC) keeps threatening to change their programming every quarter when they have their fund raiser but they somehow keep making their goal.

Add another vote to the "never heard of him" column.

When I saw the original post, I thought it was something about the bar in Center City.

After watchin the video posted in another thread about the 2 dumb girls verrrry early this morning, i started to hit other Youtube vids that were available.

one was 'dumbest game show answers' or something which led me to a Richard Dawson set of clips that had him uncontrollably laughin at 1 contestant's INANE answer. I got a kick outta it and started watching more Dawson clips.

Little did i know he would later die.

Maybe in addition to a Jersey Jinx Im also a Mortality Mush?

RIP Richard.
