Have read and reread "The Catcher in the Rye" and still don't get what all the fuss is about.

Didnt his daughter write a book basically accusing him of being completely off his rocker?

Drank his own urine, would hide away for extended periods of time- a recluse sitting who'd often speak in tongues w/ an affinity for underage girls while unable to have a physical relationship/afraid to have sex with his wife?

IMO, it's about being a teenager- nothing more.

I'm like you, I've read it several times, and to me it's just okay.

I'd rather read about rabbits and a killer farmer

really? when i read it as a 14 year old, i thought it was incredible. a perfect bridge from childhood to adulthood, literature-wise.

So much hoopla, and not a payoff- at least to me.

I read it as a teen, then again later as an adult. While I identified with the character, to me there was not enough meat there (no pun intended).

At the time, I thought Watership Down was far superior a work- obviously these were my first forays into the critical

I remember watching a game on CBS after Brookie had made his infamous Louisville comment. He was sitting in a 400 level box and waving to some fans when his watch fell off. The play by play guy (Lundquist I think) said the watch was as good as gone. Whoever else was the color guy was (Bradshaw?) said not in Philly, thet love Brookie. Sure eough, abot 15 seconds later, the watch gets tossed back up to the suite window.

Don't know why that stuck with me.

Charlie Wilson... On the list of the dearly departed.

"Actor Tom Hanks portrayed Wilson in the 2007 movie about Wilson’s efforts to arm Afghani mujahedeen during their war against the Soviet Union. Wilson, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, helped secure money for weapons."
