yes, bass, he had cancer for years and stepped down from the company because of his failing health.

still kind of a shock when someone that important dies at 56. as of yesterday, people were speculating that he might be at the iphone release conference, so only his inner circle knew how close to the end it was.

The first computer I ever really touched was one of the original macs. It was the fall of 86 and I had just started my first semester of commercial design in college. For a person who had spent the better part of their art training using traditional media, I found that the machine and it's software (Aldus Freehand & Pagemaker) were intuitive enough that I could actually do what I wanted to do. It was the beginning of a long road, as I have used subsequent Macs ever since.

The shortcomings that many see in the personality that was Steve Jobs cannot overshadow what he has meant for the industry. The man had it all, lost much of it, and was able to come back and make his creation better and more prominent than anyone had the right to expect. To say that he went out on top would be an understatement.

Well done...actually it was "insanely great"

*Note, I'm actually not a mac zealot, just have an appreciation for the machines they create

not really, he started using them b/c it's then it you couldn't use PC's to do design/video. Now, you have LPN nursing students buying them, and it makes no sense, b/c they don't need that kind of capability, and, it's available elsewhere

every fucking facebook and twitter feed is filled with thoughts of his passing. like a techie invasion of the bodysnatchers

this is just a dumb statement you keep making. for instance, the macbook air's design and feel are unlike anything else on the market. lion OS is such a leap past windows 7 it's ridiculous.

an accord has the similar "capabilities" as a bmw. it doesn't make them comparable and it doesn't mean you're an idiot if you'd rather shell out for the latter rather than settle for the former.

these statements don't mean anything.

it's not a dumb statement. 95% of the population never needed apple when it was heads and shoulders above windows in certain things, as mentioned above.

you certainly don't need to pay 3x the cost for email/mp3's/web browsing, which is what 80+% of the population uses their computers for.

Windows 7 is great, so i don't even know where you're going there. I have to use both products every day, and there is absolutely no reason to pay that much more for the other, besides the marketing.

ps, i picked up an asus net book 2 years ago for $200, and it has 250 gig hd, intel processor (similar to the present mac air processor), and does everything i need. feels very similar to the air, too.
