Not much of a fan of humor over a suicide, so this is not intended as such, and I'm not much of a NASCAR fan, however I, like many others, remember the guy simply because of his name.

Saying all that, if you're a NASCAR driver, and you're planning on your own exit, I guess that driving yourself to the symbolic finish line is the way to go.

R.I.P., Ray Manzarek. If not for his right hand's haunting organ leads and his left hand's groovy basslines, I might still be listening to horrible Top40 music. Before I heard him I was listening to Vanilla Ice. After I heard him, I was longing to take acid.

* - bass, Ray Manzarek played organ and keyboard basslines with The Doors.#

# - bass, The Doors were an American rock band. Perhaps you've heard their famous song, "Touch Me"@

@ - It's okay, bass. "Touch Me" is not about masturbation.

Never a big Doors fan but you can't talk about rock keyboardists without acknowledging Ray Manzarek.

RIP.

Did anyone actually listen to the doors after like freshman or sophomore year of high school?

Yes, even I knew who he was. Kinda.

Funny story - in high school, I paired up with a couple friends and we had a rock band. One of the songs we did was "Break On Through" (which I recognize more than "Touch Me"....I kinda like the bass line, but that's neither here nor there).

The point was, we were so exceptionally horrible that I feel ashamed pointing it out. In my musical career, I look at my time in that band kinda like Kurt Warner stocking shelves.

Someone suggested we name ourselves "Free Beer" (to get people to come out and listen to us), but I doubt naming the band "Free Money" and giving out oodles of cash and earplugs would've drawn a following

Not totally surprising given his physical condition, but definitely way too young. It's tough to believe he was only 51.

Any word on whether David Chase will volunteer to read a dramatic, emotional eulogy and cut the lights/run out the back door instead?
