I'm sure some of you have seen this and I don't know if this really deserves it's own thread, but here's the story:

ESPN benches Jacobson for Notre Dame rant

Add ESPN's Dana Jacobson's name to the list of media members who recently found themselves in trouble because of inappropriate comments or actions.

Sources have confirmed that Jacobson, a co-host of "First Take" on ESPN2, currently is serving a one-week suspension because of her behavior at a Jan. 11 roast for ESPN Radio personalities Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic at Atlantic City, N.J.

While declining to confirm Jacobson had been suspended, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said, "Her actions and comments were inappropriate and we've dealt with it."

At the roast, Jacobson made a rambling speech that included vulgar references about Notre Dame. Jacobson is a Michigan graduate, and she and Golic, a former Irish defensive lineman, often have exchanged barbs about the rivalry between the schools.

One eyewitness labeled it an "embarrassing display," and a newspaper account said the crowd booed Jacobson. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis also was in attendance.

Jacobson reportedly made a number of personal apologies the following day, including to Greenberg and Golic.

In a statement, Jacobson said, "I am sorry. My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words. I also deeply regret the embarrassment I've caused ESPN and Mike and Mike.

"My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I am. I won't make excuses for my behavior, but I do hope I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment."

Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown said, "While we in no way condone Ms. Jacobson's comments, we're aware of the circumstances in which they occurred, and in the interest of forgiveness, trust that she and ESPN will address the matter in an appropriate way."

Jacobson's troubles come on the heels of the Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman being suspended for two weeks for saying younger players should "lynch him in a back alley" in a reference to Tiger Woods.

Golfweek editor Dave Seanor was fired Friday for approving a cover that featured a swinging noose in its coverage of the Tilghman controversy. The image prompted a huge negative response and Golfweek's publisher eventually apologized for using it.

Here were the quotes she was suspended for when Roasting Notre Dame Alumn, Mike Golic:

"The suspension, first reported in the Chicago Tribune, comes after Jacobson reportedly said "F*** Notre Dame," "F*** Touchdown Jesus," and "F*** Jesus" in an attempt to talk trash to Mike and Mike co-host Mike Golic, a former Notre Dame football player."

Funny that she apologized for Notre Dame but not for the Son of Man.

What gives?

I thought that was funny, too.

Even the title of the article make reference to her offensive rant about Notre Dame.

"Fuck Notre Dame" is offensive all of a sudden? I say it about 3 times every week.

Side note - since when was Notre Dame considered the center of the college football universe?

Since ESPN declared it.

Yeah, but since they invented "cable TV", South Florida gets better recruiting classes than Notre Dame.

Is it acceptable if I just say it 150 times in one day to get it over with, like my workouts?

I just read this from one of the local AC papers (where the roast was held). It was a small blurb among an entire article slamming the event as dull and not funny, but this sounds like a hell of a party:

ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson made an absolute fool of herself, swilling vodka from a Belvedere bottle, mumbling along and cursing like a sailor as Mike & Mike rested their heads in their hands in embarrassment. Griffin came to the podium to defend her after she was booed by the crowd. Ross eventually had to pull her off stage, too.

Yeah...host of First Take (which I've never seen).

She also used to be host Cold Pizza and fills in on ESPN Radio.

She also has a horse face, if that helps.

So at a roast, where the roasters traditionally get drunk and say offensive things, she was reprimanded for getting drunk and saying offensive things?

Am I missing something here?

No, I think you're fine. It's ESPN that appears to have missed the point.

It's ESPN that appears to have missed the point.

You can apply that to just about ANYTHING they do.

Well, considering ESPN's part of the Disney empire, and it's not as if they need to do much to bring the Southern Baptists against them....well, I can see why.

Find it funny that this only nets a week suspension, while if she said something offensive about minorities or what-not, she would've been canned.

*chalks up another reason not to pay for cable*

Um, I completely agree with 2/3 of her sentiments...

On a side note, why am I not shocked that in a world of hot--or at least attractive-- female sports reporters, Dana Jacobsen is the University of Michigan's contribution. Ugh.

So Disney is pro-Jesus?!?!

I always knew that that "Goofy Is The Antichrist" cartoon was a front.

Find it funny that this only nets a week suspension, while if she said something offensive about minorities or what-not, she would've been canned.

Of course, had she ripped on Greenberg being Jewish, everyone would have laughed and this would have been a non-issue.

Most roasts are for members of the entertainment industry; thus, this might be the first time a gentile was roasted, so these "f-Jesus" remarks were unchartered territory. ESPN, I'm giving you a pass.

"roasts are for members of the entertainment industry"

So why was Mike Golic being roasted?
