Stubhub

Looking to see if anyone has any experience with Stubhub. My wife won the lottery for Tix to a certain, bi-annual, International Golf event being played in September in Kentucky. We've already paid about 9 bills for 2 weeklong passes. However, as I told her when she came home all proud that she had won, this thing is an expensive and logistical nightmare and if we could make ANY sort of coin selling them it would be a good idea. And add to the mix we will have 1 year old that she, at least, does not want to leave for a week, and I don't feel like Tiger's caddie Stevie punching me in the face when my daughter cries out during his backswing, if she would even be allowed in (still researching that).

So, anyone with Stubhub experience?

How are they likely to verify the authenticity of our Tickets? All the PGA did was send a letter and charge the card.

Do they act as some sort of escrow? The Tickets will not be mailed until August.

And do they have a mechanism for establishing fair market value and do they take a cut?

Anyone?

The only thing I know for sure is that they (StubHub) take a 15% cut of whatever your ticket sells for. So if you sell the ticket for a grand, you see $850.

Now onto how I THINK it works (again, not sure:)

I don't think it's on them to establish market value. You can set the price at what you want the ticket to sell for, they merely provide you the avenue to sale.

No clue regarding authenticity validation...

I was just kind of wondering if they had any sort of transaction history out there to help with valuation. I guess that was my question.

Just EBAY em.
There are all sortsa tricks to make sure you get what you want.

No need to fear having to let em go at the winning bid price, if it's not lookin like it's goin to end in the neighborhood of what you'd take.

At least w/ EBAY, both Buyer and seller are protected.

Thats a huge plus. Unsure about Stubhub and there policy on that.

But the buyer's only protection on ebay is feedback, no?

Stubhub guarantees the tickets to the buyer. Which is I guess how/why they get their 15%. So the question becomes what is the optimal pricepoint. There actually is a completed sale out there for the same thing on ebay for $2400 but the dude claimed to have been a "power seller" and this is the ONLY completed transaction for the same thing that we possess. Not sure if that helped, being the "Power Seller", that is.

People will tend to pay more if it's a Power Seller, b/c that means they have a good rep

No, I would be there strictly to tell my wife I was going for beer and grab PGA Tour Wife Ass until I was asked to leave.

I've both bought and sold tickets off Stubhub and have yet to have a problem.

When I sold, it took about a week after the buyer confirmed they had the tickets for Stubhub to send me the check in the mail (You can also do DD if you wish). Another benefit is that you just have to deal with StubHub and never the buyer him/herself.

It's a 15% commission fee if you sell, and 10% if you buy. What they kill you with if you buy is the shipping because its done via FedEx (ranges from $12-$17).

When the tickets are sold, they email you a FedEx slip to print out and you just slap it on a FedEx envelope and you're on your way.

Another thing about being a buyer is that EBay usually costs less but there's no guarantee you'll get your tickets (and I believe you're only insured up to a certain amount). StubHub guarantees you get your tickets (They'll give you equal or better tickets if you don't receive them or a full refund), but it often costs more.

Forgot one thing: When you list the tickets they will tell you what similar tickets have recently sold for, giving you an idea of how much you want to list them for.

Thank, IHSY, one more thing. Any idea how the fact that tickets won't be mailed till August might be handled by them? There are already Ryder Cup tickets being sold out there, just curious how they handle the lag. Make the buyer pay for them and hold it in escrow? I emailed them and the response I got was terrible.

When I bought NFL tickets this year, StubHub charged my Credit Card immediately and told me the exact date that the tickets would be in-hand and shipped. It ended up being over a month later and they were correct with the date they emailed me.

When someone bought MY tickets, they asked me to pick a date that I knew I would have the tickets in-hand and ready to ship. If something happened, you had to notify them immediately.

So, yeah, they would 'hold' the buyer's money for you until you sent them the tickets and StubHub received confirmation and then send it to you however you wanted.

Cool, thanks. I think I am gonna try to ebay them first but if my lack of selling history scares anyone off I'll try stubhub.
