Times you have felt Old!!!

Ok I know most of the levelers here are about 10 years younger than me, but there are some of you who are in my age bracket. And in all honesty this thread applies to anyone.

What are some situations where you have felt really old?

I had a kid who works as a cashier at the bar I work at come in on his day off in street clothes. He was wearing a Metallica “metal up your ass” t shirt. I got all nostalgic and said “dude I used to have that t-shirt! I got it at the Spectrum in Philadelphia when Metallica toured with ozzy in 86. They rocked the place so hard that they made ozzy look bad!”

Kid looked at me and said, “yeah, I wasn’t born yet.”

Ugh…

I’m a creepy old dude.

I have had countless similar conversations about the Eagles with the younger generation.

Whenever teenagers look at me like I have three heads because I complain that they play too much rock music at the Wachovia Center during stoppages as opposed to the organ.

I feel old at club/bars. They are about as much fun as cancer of the balls to me.

when I see a kid text messaging at a frenetic pace. I've sent a grand total of about 6 text messages in my life. All to Seth during games and usually consisting of about 2 words, and even that takes me about 5 minutes to do.

Or, maybe I'm just retarded.

I have played basketball my entire life. There always seemed to be that one old guy on the court, who obviously had skills back in the day but has been slowed by age. Last year I looked around the court and realized that old guy was me.

Also, I have always been athletic. Most sports came pretty easy to me. However, I went skiing for the first time in my life this year (after turning 40). It has been almost a week since and I am still sore all over.

Anytime I watch MTV. I remember the exact day it came on air. I remember when it actually played videos, had shows like Yo!! MTV Raps, Headbangers Ball, Aeon Flux, Beavis and Butthead etc.

Now its all Sweet 16 parties and Real World/Road Rules nonsense. I dont consider myself a fogey by any means but when I talk about the "good ol' days" of Music Videos I sound like my dad. It depressing.

A couple of former high school mates and I have a tradition where we play football every Thanksgiving morning. In the beginning it was straight-up tackle, then it denigrated to flag, and not it's two-hand touch. Besides that, my body has felt like I've gone 8 rounds with Lennox Lewis.

If that doesn't make me feel old, the fact that we play about 2 blocks away from where Central-Northeast play (and I remember how I used to MARCH in that game, carrying a tuba) does.

Is it the fact that you no longer recognize the cartoon characters on her underpants or just a general sinking feeling like "I'm not a promiscuous 13 year old boy any more"?

I've got one for you.

Crackin' eye openers before the sun was up and still drinking when you went to bed.

That's when I felt young.

I guess I am old when I'm thinking, "been there/done that" with regards to going out. I prefer a restaraunt or lounge now instead of some loud venue with goofy patrons.

I also feel old when I realize that I can't get away with getting only 3 hours of sleep and functioning and feeling exhausted even if I get 5 hours. Frustrating for sure.

The one thing I do like about getting older is needing less sleep

I've actually found that not to be true. I agree with Jules, I could function much better on minimal sleep when I was younger than I can now. I need my 8 hours.

I feel old every time I see my college-aged nephew.

That's weird, as you get older and your metabolism slows, you should be fine on less and less sleep. Of course, everyone's metabolism is different. I think my dad runs on about an hour of sleep, and he works about 12 hours a day (i was probably adopted)
