You should have said "You're not a cop, right, b/c you have to tell me if you are"

Well hopefully, for your sake, it was the cop from the Village People and he had his shirt off.

I definitely think the cop went a little overboard, but I'm going to go with my general punishment here for the mother if she attempts to cash in via lawsuit:
public execution.
The cop should be dealt with appropriately and we need to set an example for money grubbing whores out there at the same time.

That was in reference to Seth mentioning that this punk's mom is positioning for a lawsuit.
Not your post.
Gotcha. Anyway, the kid had his headphones on and didn't hear the cop. Once he did he stopped skateboarding. The whole thing should have lasted 30 seconds but instead the "dude" felt he needed to berate the kid for no reason other than to feel strong.
If nomenclature gets you that pissed off then you're in the wrong line of work. Respect is earned, not a privilege, doesn't matter what badge you wear.

The cop was a bit of a dick, but isn't respect presumed when dealing with certain aspects of the legal and judicial branches?
I don't tell a cop to eat shit when he pulls me over and commands me to turn over my license/registration because he hasn't yet earned my respect.

We couldn't be further apart on this.
I'm not saying every cop is a shining example of justice and honor, but respect is earned once you earn the privledge to wear a badge and decide to put your life on the line to serve the community.
I'm not talking about mall security here, I'm talking about cops who respond to public distress.
9/11 has truly slipped from the public conscious. It's now just an unpleasant memory right along side those ridiculous flags the sheep had in their car windows the week after.

f-d he did say something to the effect of "if I find myself on you-tube I'm gonna be pissed" and this happened and was posted on you-tube sometime last summer I believe...
I don't think the dude did anything wrong at all, the take down was probably harder than he wanted it to have been but the kid wasn't listening to him at all and seemed to be kind of swinging the board around, granted the kid wasn't about to hit the cop but still if it were an adult the cop would've done the same thing, taken away a potential weapon.
Not sure why this is now becoming news, sine it happened over the summer?!? is mom getting ready to file some sort of lawsuit like some people have already suggested?!? most likely.
The other thing that kind of bothered me about this is why were 14 year olds walking around with a carmera on and filming nothing, makes me wonder if they were staging the thing with the cop. Why else would they have a camera on and keep it kind of out of sight???
whatever I agree the kid got the attitude from being to close to mommy. My nephews are skate punks and have had run ins with a few cops, they've had their boards taken and my sister had to go down to the station to have it released to her after the cops explained why they took the boards(and she agreed with the cops and they lost them for another couple weeks)... So it's not just in Balt that stuff like this goes on, he was just unlucky that it was caught on tape.

back in high school a carload of us got pulled over and hauled in for drinking underage. While in transit in the back of the cruiser my friend says, "officer! officer! pull over right now!", the cop says, "why?" My friend says, "you were doing 40 in a 25, I'm going to make a citizens arrest!" The cop, turns around and says...without a smile whatsoever..."if you say one more word, I'm going to pull over, take you out, and beat the shit out of you." Needless to say it was a very quiet ride home.
Not exactly sure what that has to do with this story but it was pretty funny.
Oh yeah, we all had to call our parents and have them pick us up. Except for my friend, he had to spend the night in jail.

"I just think he acted like a power-tripping asshole when it wasn't really called for. "
Which is how most cops act and why kids and adults alike usually don't respect them like they used too. I am sure most cops are good people doing there job but so many are just assholes that I can see why people don't treat them with any respect.

I can agree with that, but that respect is quickly lost when you act like such a dickhead. He's acting like a little baby because a 90 pound 14 year old called him dude. Because the kid is so small it makes the cop look like a childish bully with thin skin. Wow, what a tough guy, pushing around a scrawny kid. The ending of the clip shows he knew he crossed a line.
A cop for 17 years, probably had dreams of being a detective but is still stuck on a crappy beat in an embarrassing car, wearing shorts, overweight, woke up on the wrong side of the bed, saw some kids enjoying themselves more than he was that day and had to vent some anger cause he got disrespected.
Anyway, that's my version of it.

First, this one's for Johnny,
"Respect the badge...he earned it with his blood, I am the law, you won't fuck around no more, I AM THE LAW!"
Was this guy over the top? Yeah, maybe a little.
Did the kid have it coming? Yeah, maybe a little.
I'll buy into the camp that's bringing the "respect" to the table. That's something that should have happened prior to this incident. As with many others on this board, I've had a couple run-ins with the law back in the day, but I treated the incident & authority with the respect that I had learned at home and was rewarded.
Case-in-point, the garage days, circa 1988. I worked there and had a friend who was over 21 stop by. He gets beer at the joint next door and we sit at the chairs by the window after closing time talking and building a small pyramid of empties. We're about ready to leave the darkened gas station when two cruisers pull in. They shine their spotlights into the place and find us and the pyramid in the corner. When I went out to talk to the officers, I made a concerted effort to use the word "sir" a lot. I was rewarded by them not checking IDs (I was not legal at the time) and having them leave with a warning about not "staying too late" after hours near the window (the overly-dutiful neighbor across the street called us in). He also said that we should "be careful on the way home", - nuff said. Granted, this was in the late '80s and standards may have been slightly less than they are now, but I think that how you handle yourself in the presence of police still goes a long way as to how you are treated.

Every time I get pulled over I tell the cop-
"Hey DUDE, you work for ME. I'm the guy that pays your overly generous salary. Huh? You want me to get out of the car? Then open my door you glorified butler!"
Works every time.
