WTF, is it a crime now to want some 30yo strange now? How is he a piece of shit? He helps set up sting operations to put creeps behind bars. There is ZERO irony in this story.

I agree flesh.

I think those fellows just wanted to warn those naive kids about the dangers of the internet when they drove 600 miles to show up at theirs houses with condoms, weed, and a case of Busch Light.

he's a piece of shit opportunist. i'm not defending these guys, but it's a police matter. their lives are ruined anyway, does their demise really have to be on television with some jerkoff popping out from behind he curtains telling them "why don't you take have seat?", grilling them, then telling they're free to go, only to be tackled by a couple of cops on their way out the door.

it's great that he got secretly videotaped giving in his to his own sexual indiscretions.

I do think there's some pretty good irony and I do agree that he's an opportunist, but I don't know if he's a piece of shit for doing that show.

At the end of the day, it helped put people behind bars AND raised awareness.

Well at least the chick he cheated with is half way decent looking.

All too often these stories end in TMZ releasing photos of these broads reminiscent of the Patterson-Gimlin film.

Good show by him

yes to awareness, i guess. the one advantage of his show is that, perhaps, it makes potential predators less likely to act (though it's amazing how many times the dudes that get busted will say something like "i kind of figured it was a trap")

i don't agree he's helping put people behind bars. it's a police operation, no? his crew is just along for the ride.

at the end of the day, he just makes me kind of sick - especially his brand of "questioning" to the suspects - and it's hilarious that he got busted on video. sexual impulses are a bitch, eh, mr. hansen?

There is ZERO irony in this story.

Let me hit you over the head with a bat with it then:

He sets people up with a holier than thou, shame on you for your sexual deviancy broadcast in a syndicated TV program, and then goes out and is caught on tape cheating on his wife with which he has two children.

Sure, he's not luring 12 year old boys to a house for a night of drunken sodomy, and I guess in the liberal society we live in today some consider cheating on your wife to be commonplace and acceptable but some moral people still consider breaking the vows of marriage with infidelity mildly scandalous (i.e. Arnold, Wiener, Clinton etc). For a person to make a living exploiting the deviant sexual appetites of others and then to go out and have a form of sexual deviancy, regardless of criminality, that's ironic.

NOTE: I'm not saying what he does is criminal, and clearly most of the people he catches are criminal, but if you're going to take a 'my shit doesn't stink' approach you better be squeaky fucking clean yourself.

I've only watched a handful of episodes over the years, but I got the sense that it was volunteer organizations working with police and I assumed they were getting a good kickback from the show/raising donations for the organizations doing this stuff.

The police always stayed outside and I just figured it was because they could arrest the people for the crime, but luring them in (the police doing it directly) would have been entrapment or something.

no, that's incorrect for a couple reasons. first, they are voluntarily engaging these "girls" and going to meet them, so there's no entrapment (claiming entrapment is almost always a loser for a defendant; it has to be really egregious). second, hanson really has nothing to do with the operation. they hire an actress or use a really young looking female cop as the bait to wait in the house.

as far as i can tell, they basically just postpone the arrest for the TV show. it's gross.

yep, you're right, i had forgotten about "perverted justice's" (nice name) role in all of this.

but i still don't think the cops are waiting outside because they're afraid of getting the case tossed due to entrapment.

Yeah, I have no idea about that. Like I said, I just made that assumption because I never understood why the cops didn't just handle the whole things themselves, without the need for a volunteer organization. The only thing I could come up with in my head is the cops conducting the sting themselves would somehow constitute entrapment, but I guess that wouldn't make sense since they go undercover as hookers.

if you read the wiki entry you posted, it basically details how the relationship between PJ and the cops evolved. it's complicated and convulted, nothing to do with, say, the cops looking for a volunteer group to help them with sting operations to avoid an entrapment defense.

Right...I didn't read the wiki article when I guessed about the relationship 7 years ago and haven't thought about it again until today.

Decent spoof of "Field of Dreams" surrounding the NFL Lockout w/ NFL Players like Ray Lewis, Tony G & D-Jax...Taylor Lautner in the "Costner" role and a cameo by Costner himself.

Can't embed it for some reason so the link to FUNNY or DIE's video is below.
