Second richest man in the Universe...he must be a real charmer to get past a name that would sound cheesy for a Prison Break character.

It's amusing how they put the bullet points up there while he's talking- for the slower witted viewers I'm guessing.

They are worse than ESPN at this point.

I also like how he says "From a MEXICAN?" like it's the guy who trims his hedges doing some loan sharking on the side and not the second richest man in the world buying a larger stake in the company.

I listen to the Dave Ramsey show podcasts from time to time because, while he's completely crazy and I don't agree with everything he says, it helps keep me focussed on making smart personal choices and reminds me of the potential consequences for making poor ones.

For those are aren't familair with him, he does aradio and TV show somthing like Suze Orman's...just takes calls from people who are in debt or have general questions and are looking for financial advice. He was also featured in the "Maxed Out" documentary we all disucussed a few months back.

At any rate, I was listening to the podcast from 2 weeks ago and this is the call I hear:

Caller: Hi...why do we need to go to a lawyer to have a will drawn up?

Dave: Well, each state has different regulations, loopholes, and specific language requirements, so you want to use a lawyer to make sure your will can hold up in your state.

Caller: Why can't me and my husband just write down our wishes and have it notaraized?

Dave: Same deal...because the laws are different in each state and if you don't use the correct phrasing, your family might get screwed or end up in court. Some states also require a witness.

Caller: What if we brought someone with us to the notary?

Dave: Well, that won't cut it. You can go to (some legal forms website he names) and get the correct paperwork for your state for $15 if you want to save money, but you'll want legal paperwork.

Caller: I tried that already, but they said I needed two forms...one for me and oen for my husband.

Dave: Well, that's because you each need a will...there's two of you.

Caller: Why can't we just put it all in one. All our assets are together.

Dave: Uh...look. You don't have $30?

Caller: Not at this time.

So, someone spent probably 40 minutes on hold, months researching the creation of a will, and 10 minutes on the phone with a financial advsior all in a desparate effort to create a will...and they don't have $30 to their name.

ntf.

by the way, the stuff with wills is so language-sensitive it's amazing, based on what i've learned. there are so many variations on possession, you really should go to a lawyer for your will.

where commas are placed can change things. no hyperbole.

Maybe they are sitting on billions in mineral rights or something like the Dodgers pitcher prospect who's granny had something like a billion in decorative stone under her farm, and it's just a temporary cash flow problem.

Hey, anything is possible, but I think anyone who has millions of dollars worth of anything could probably swing a loan for for a couple Jacksons.

If you don't have $30 of liquidity and can't ascertain those funds from a loved one, friend, or business associate, my spider senses tell me you can probably wait on the will.

I don't think those people have a cash flow (per $30) problem, it's just a "propensity to be difficult" problem. You know the type. When you are waiting on their table they want to substitute everything and then bring them two plates for one entree and bring them extra free bread and then complain after eating the whole meal that it was underdone and then ask to speak to a manager and then raise their voices until it gets comped and then split the checks for the drink portion of the tab and then tip you only on that- you know... Republicans from Delaware

It's how the rich get rich

I told you I use to wait tables and bartend at one of the best hotels in Pittsburgh- high end. Waited on Slash, Dan Marino, Cliffy Clavin, Jenny Love Hewitt, George Benson, and I even made the Rolling Stones' drinks when they came to town. Of course they got room service, but I was made aware of who they were for. There were others but I don't want to seem like I'm name dropping.
