So Letterman is finally playing the Bill Hicks standup that was banned after he did it. Hicks did the same exact bit here, and it's not funny

Letterman isn't doing Hicks any favors by airing this. The material should be pretty dated, and frankly the fact that this never aired did more for his mystique than any of his performances.

I don't know where it's from. When I was a kid, we always said "swear", but I never heard "swears" until somewhat recently from someone from the midwest.
I think "easy on teh swears" was the context and I found that phrasing quite fun.

Always been 'Curse" when I was growin up.
I've heard some Jersey folk say "Cuss" tho. Odd.

But the guy was awesome.
i've said this before about hicks - as a social commentator, the guy was amazing, and that's why i love him. his material was great. however, as a stand up comedian, he could be cringe-worthy at times. it kind of goes back to the whole thing thing about denis leary supposed stealing his material in "no cure for cancer", which was a total phenomenon, really funny and basically made leary a star. he just delivered the material better, imo.
so i can see neag's opinion of hicks. if you don't appreciate his views, you'll probably think he's brutal.

I just don't think his material was anything special, either, so it's not just the delivery. Some of his most famous bits are about how shitty marketing people are, LA sucks, stuff like that. I've seen a lot of his stuff and none of it really jumped out as special to me
