I have to say though that I would like to know the historical origins of people shooting each other over how a basketball game is scored.

Flesh, I was just wondering if it was a daily assault on Jews would you find it all "pointless and boring"?

yes, i would.

Well I guess we were raised differently, because I was taught that when someone says something patently false or wrong, you speak up and correct them. To sit by idly and say nothing is tacit agreement.

Much the same way I spoke up against Magic Johnson, Tiger (after his digressions) and any other murderer, fiend or rapist.

So while I will not defend murderers and robbers, I also will not sit by and defend thought that thinks it's a result of someone's race- cause at the end of the day- Jesus was black, Confucious was Asian, Julio Cesar Chavez was Latino, and Lincoln was shot...for freeing blacks

You mean like when, say, someone edits a quote from you to suggest that you would practice racial profiling when looking at a prospective hire?

I didn't edit your post at all.

I took your words as they were said.

I also never suggested that you actually did that, I just made a general comment, and then said "Hi Glenn :)" to you.

I guess my minnow worked haha

well, since you must be aware that i've consistently spoken up on this board when something i feel is racist has been posted, i can only assume you are making a veiled reference to bass.

bass, just pointing out that you generally stay out of the fray on race-issues on the board (certainly your prerogative), even though you're black. since i generally don't, if the issue is at all debate- worthy, i have to assume fred's "tacit agreement by not saying anything" was directed at you, not me.

Well, usually I attribute a troll to being "hit and run".

I've taken the abuse, entertained the discussion, debated the facts and evidence, and not run when things got tough.

If you really think I'm a troll, you're entitled to that opinion.

I'll answer everything thrown my way, to the best of my ability. So if that makes me a troll, Flesh- maybe you ought to out some of the other trolls present? Yes?

no, what makes you a troll is when you said that glenn "took the minnow" you fed him. you called yourself out, just now. i wasn't calling out anybody, just pointing that out.

i didn't point out you "throwing a bomb", whatever that means. i pointed out what you wrote 15 minutes ago - that in an argument about race, you admittedly baited glenn. it has nothing to do with anyone else.

Please tell me that I am the first or only one to make subtle and sarcastic jabs, and then I will admit to being a troll.

i'm not even sure what exchange with glenn you're referencing; again, just pointing out that you admitted to baiting glenn when he called you out for taking something he said out of context. it sort of hurts your argument that neag and others are the ones baiting, and you're simply defending truth, as per how you were raised.

You of all people know better, I laugh regularly at your stuff. Don't contradict yourself now.

thank you, i'm glad you enjoy. but i can't for the life of me see where i've contradicted myself in this instance.

So if you're not entirely sure about the context, how can you pass judgement on it? After all, you'll freely admit that many of these exchanges have been baiting a bit- give and take. Why point out this particular instance? Because Glenn actually got upset?

When I find the thread, please let me know what was particularly agregious on my part, and then I will apologize for my trolldom

If this gets lost, screw it.

bass, just pointing out that you generally stay out of the fray on race-issues on the board (certainly your prerogative), even though you're black.

So because I'm black, that means I should just dive head-first into discussion even though I usually say what needs to be said and bug Talon with Pansy Manning and FD with his illogical Superman-crush?

For a minute, I used to get into those long-winded, mind-numbing posts....lots of wall o' text running around. Then I thought that I was taking it way too seriously (at least on here) and keep my opinions on matters like these short. Because I sit in silence (or avoid the issue altogether) does not label me as some mute agreement party. Lazy for not putting forth the energy? Probably more accurate, but really - what more needs to be said? It's more interesting for Dino to call me out on Akers sucking than to get involved in stuff like this, and usually, the people who's opinions I directly disagree with I confront (or try to confront) directly.

I've said from my first post on here about race relations that it's never as bad as it looks and it's never as good as it seems. The human element, as I discussed with someone else on here, complicates things and makes simple solutions not so simple. Prejudice exists due to a human element; power, greed, and fear take it to another level. Just like mercy, compassion, and understanding can control it.

GGB's point a while back about institutionalized racism is correct, but if most people involved weren't so gung-ho about keeping familiarity around, it would work a lot better and there wouldn't be a need for it. It becomes a Catch-22 - you force someone who doesn't want to to present an opportunity b/c they sometimes won't, and the person who gets the op sometimes gets it for reasons not much other than filling a quota.

That's why I wasn't surprised at the step competition, because there's always been a case where the person who should get the prize is usually denied b/c of unfamiliarity, fear, or even because of racism (or in this case, MONEY, as in future customers vs. what's right). Blacks dealt with this kind of crap all the time in the 18-1900s. Still do today, and it's certainly not exclusive to blacks/whites. That's why I took Seth and his education stuff to task (though I took a bite of that minnow, too), b/c it happens.

Everyone knows where I stand - I agree with both FB and Seth on key issues, but ultimately, it's a perspective issue and it's not always right or wrong simply because of background....if I go into how I was followed in a grocery store by a cop when I was 6 and have festered somewhat of a skeptical eye towards authority but you come and point out areas by which the cops have helped you out, does that make me/you wrong? Things that you or GGB or anyone else might consider common sense may not be so common when the environment's changed. It's easy to say 'you're not helping yourselves' when sometimes it's at the most crucial point of your life you're not gaining acceptance from your peers and you want to be accepted. I thank God every day that I had a nurturing (if sometimes crazy) supporting family to get me through things, and that's not something everyone has.

This post is exactly why I tend to stay away form this sort of thing, b/c my arguments are known and I don't feel like rehashing certain things. Besides, the best example you can give to someone is your own life and how you life it. You can't enlighten someone if they're too scared to take off their blinders.
