As suggested by F-D & open to anyone...
What does a broken leg feel like?
I severely turned my ankle a 4 weeks back and just brushed it off, but now my leg hurts intermitantly in my upper/outer calf. It also feels weak when I walk up stairs. The pain is more of a dull ache that won't go away, nothing sharp. I never went to the Dr (stupid) and now one of the guys on my team says it sounds like a spiral fracture.
I never broke anything other than digits & nose, so I have no idea.

Is it not a bit odd to live in Sweden, and ask medical advice about a broken leg to a message board in the U.S.?
Doctor's strike over there?

If you broke your leg it would hurt intermittently in your upper / outer calf. It would also feel weak when you walk up stairs. The pain you feel would be a like dull ache that won’t go away but nothing sharp.
If you experience anything like this you should see a doctor because you may have what they call a spiral fracture.

GGB - no, my medical care is free, I just don't like going to the Dr. If I thought it was anything other than a sprain, I would have had it checked out.
Section - don't you have a stromboli to overpay for?

depends on the mechanism of injury....
basically, if you feel a "dull ache" it would be odd to be a fracture. Generally, the pain is very sharp and with point tenderness. If the fracture is a spiral fracture, the mechanism usually tends to be abnormal load (weight bearing injury) which would be a bit odd for you as a guy and not over 60.
Stress fractures would be among the other things that come to mind, esp if you are a runner.
The only peculiarity of your history in this case is the constant pain for several days. If you twisted your ankle, this could easily be related to ligamentous injury. If your have normal range of motion without any tenderness it would be odd as well.
I don't see why you wouldn't get it x-rayed.

when you say, upper outer calf, are you referring to the muscle region, just below the knee or on the shin bone (tibia) itself?

oh, final question, did you twist your ankle by rolling it inwards? If so, there is an uncommon fracture that can occur called a "maissonnueve" fracture. It is usually related to an ankle injury and it partly involves the propogation of the force of injury through the long axis of the lower extremity and the "pop off" valve for that force is the fibular head which would be precisely where you are describing the pain. The only thing is that it is almost uniformly accompanied by an avulsion fracture over the lateral malleolus (bony part of your outer ankle) and swelling in that region.
So, yes.....my advise, get the xray

It happened during one of my practices. I was filling in at NT and jumped to block the passing lane. As I was coming down, the C pushed me back and I landed awkwardly, rolling out over the ankle. It was sore for 3 or 4 days and I figured it was a high ankle sprain and would take a few weeks to clear up.
The pain is in the muscle, not the tibia and there is also a sharp pain (very seldom) on the bony, inner part of the ankle.
After 4 weeks, isn't an X-Ray a moot point?

And Section, no there is no decent pizza here. Pizza is generally undercooked thin crust with bizarre-ass toppings and they eat it with a knife & fork.
I would gladly pay 200:- ($30) for a good pie.
or Mexican.
or Chinese.
or a Hoagie.
or TastyKakes.
or a Water Ice.
etc.

Do people from the states ever mail you food like TastyKakes?
When you come back to the states do you like go on an eating frenzy?
I ask that because when I lived in S.C., every time I would come back to Philly I'd stuff my face with cheese steaks, TastyKakes, and pizza. I'd take boxes of TastyKakes back with me.
That's gotta be rough with no decent pizza, hoagies or Chinese food. That’s a big sacrifice to live in another country.

When I'm in town, I pretty much go on a cheesesteak & wing tour of the Delaware Valley. Two or three times a year I get a consignment of "smuggled" TastyKakes, soft pretzels, cannoli shells and other goodies from home. I just found a LG for my team that spent a year in Bethlehem, so he gets some stuff shipped, too. I'm still trying figure out how to ship Eastern BBQ from NC.
There is a place in town that bakes a damn fine calzone, so I go there every other week. I just have to be very specific about stuffings. These folks will put anything on a pizza. Bananas, eggs, tuna, grapes. It's just beyond wierd.
