Yeah, I noticed once I past 30 how these things seem to happen. Crossed 40 this year, and I can feel the slow decline creeping in. Ugh!

I did remember one thing today that I did on Saturday that may have triggered it. I worked out at the gym, and was doing chest and biceps, so I wouldn't doubt that one of those preacher curl reps could've triggered it.

I'll lay off the gym until it subsides, but what would be the recommended time off until I could go back to full weight lifting? Couple of weeks? Month? I'm assuming ease back into it once I do.

I don't think there is a specific timeline, but I'd give yourself at least two weeks off from lifting or heavy activity.

Ok, well you can jerk off, but only with your left hand.

Jules,

Can you tell who has AIDS just by looking at him?

I can.

Jules,

On New Years Eve I hooked up w a random 22 year old white male.

We didn't have any condoms so I didn't hit him up the bum like he wanted, even though he said he was cool w barebackin, I wasn't.

However, long story short I ended up with a little cum in my eye.

What would yo say the chances of infection would be?

I ask b/c I was really sick last week

dude, you're fine. i think if it was the hivver, you would have gotten sick immediately after, not a month later.

though as i'm sure jules will tell you, its theoretically possible to get infected through mucus membranes, including the eye.

No you would get sick about a month after

not sure about that. i thought you got sick (like a real bad flu) right away as your body has no immunity. you then develop antibodies and recover from the primary infection, but eventually succumb (if untreated) years later as the virus slowly destroys the immune system. the virus is never actually dormant, so that's why i don't know why it would take a month to get sick after the initial contact.

Trust me it takes like 3-6 weeks to develop symptoms. KB I think 6 mos is when you can be sure the antibody test will be positive

NEAG, I'm not sure if you are genuine with your question or trying for shock effect.

From a realistic standpoint, the biggest two risks you have are for hepatitis C (small chance of that since it is theoretically transmitted through bodily fluids but most often with through blood) or herpes simplex 2. For the former, I'd encourage you to get tested but your realistic risk is negligible. For the latter, you'd already develop symptoms of eye pain, watery eyes, feeling like there is something "in" your eye" like sand or whatever. Those would be signs of conjunctival herpes. You would be unlikely to manifest signs except at the point of contact AND you would have manifested these signs a about 3 days after your exposure.

Your risk for HIV is also theoretical. If you had been exposed, then unfortunately, you are way past the window for treatment (on the down side). On the plus side, your likelihood is less than 1/1000. As for herpes, you would have already known cuz it'd have caused you enough problems to see a doctor before now. For hep C, you are still in the treatment window (first 90 days) but your risk remains low.

I'd encourage you to get tested for STDs (if you aren't just messing with me) but would also tell you to take heart cuz you are unlikely to have contracted anything serious that is untreatable. Of course, if anything (heaven/God forbid), then it is also possible that it happened before NYE.

Finally, there are a few bacterial infections but you would have been sick within days. It wouldn't be latent for so long. And I'm assuming you were vaccinated against Hep B but the risk would be similar to hep C as I explained above.

Thx. I'm pretty sure I'm fine, I'm very careful w my randoms.

Aboout a year or so ago my doc ran the gamut of tests, hep c, hep b (I'm vaccinated), syphillis, I checked out clean.

I thought that it was only theorhetically possible w the eye thing.

Do you agree, Jules, that the public thinks it's easier to contract HIV than it actually is?

Yes, its perceived as being easier because lots of untrue assertions that are propagated. That isn't to say the danger isn't real or that it doesn't happen. It definitely does. Basically, the notion of how easy it is doesn't explain how often or how intense contact may have been. You read stories about how someone who walked near a guy who had HIV who coughed and somehow contracted it. Or the real sad circumstance of someone who sleeps with a person once and gets HIV (can definitely happen). What happens more often is that the person has many sexual encounters with the infected person OR has a dangerous lifestyle with random hookups. The problem is that the hysteria is misplaced in one sense that it generally isn't that easy. BUT, on the other hand, it isn't impossible that those brief or unlikely events DO happen. They get the most press and that generates more concern. Take the Toyota thing. I think, to date, there are 16 known deaths. 16 out of MILLIONS of cars sold??? That isn't as bad as its made to sound, yes? The problem is what if YOU are that person? Then those stats are irrelevant. Does this make sense?

So, in the end, most people prefer to err on the side of caution and control what they can. Do some way over do it? Yes.

Hello Jules-

How to begin...

I know that I have a "bad" reputation in many circles, and that some think me silly, stupid, or militant.

I accept that- so I'll just go right ahead and plow into the question, sans fear of reprisal or derision.

I know I am behind the current playlist as far as movies go, so to all those that have already seen it- please bear with me.

I just saw Sicko for the first time, and while I have some conflicting views, I decided to ask the most qualified poster on this board for his opinion. I assume that you saw it.

Jules- please tell me what was wrong with the movie; how did Michael Moore distort the truth and what did he leave out? After watching this movie, I felt sick. Physically sick.

I think the things that made me the most ill were the statements that the current U.S. healthcare system ranked 37th in the world, or that Canadians and British(socialists!) or the French were being treated better than the citizens of "the greatest nation on Earth".

Please tell me it was all lies, and that Moore is the devil incarnate.

Thank you
