I also saw "Downfall" and liked it quite a bit. I can see what flesh is saying when he says it's a human portrayal of Hitler. Not that I had any sympathy for him for one second of the film, but you see Hitler transformed from a towering evil idol to a confused man filled with fear and doubt. He knows it's over and he has no idea how to handle it. You're not saying to yourself "Poor Hitler" but it shows a different side of him than just a dictator barking out commands and whipping people into a frenzy, which is all I've ever seen of him in old stock footage.

It's told from the viewpoint of his secretary based on her diaries, which seems strange because she is not in every scene so there's definitely a lot of dramatic license. Pretty good movie, but a bit too long.

it's not soley based on the secretary. from wiki: "based upon the books: Inside Hitler's Bunker, by historian Joachim Fest; portions of Albert Speer's memoirs; the memoirs of Traudl Junge, one of Hitler's secretaries; Hitler's Last Days: An Eye-Witness Account, by Gerhardt Boldt; doctor Ernst-Günther Schenck's memoirs; and the memoirs of Siegfried Knappe."

Probably not for awhile. It just started filming in April.

Here's a pic of Josh Brolin as Dubya:

This has a lot of potential for hilarity, intentional or otherwise.

Fair enough. I figure since she was chosen as the main character that it was based on only her memoir. I also vaguely remember her book getting a credit before or after the film and no other work being cited, but it's been three years since I saw it.

It could be so bad it's good.

Stone's movies suck, with a few exceptions

Hopefully it's not a 2 hour SNL skit, or else Frank Calliendo should be the lead.

"king of kong" has been discussed at length on this board, BR2008. i have actually seen it on cable already.

really good, though. still have trouble believing is not a faux-documentary.

Yup...ruled ass.

I think they play it on G4 every once in a while, but I had a hard time beliving it wasn't a Christopher Guest film at times.

Hit three movies this weekend:

"The Bank Job": Here's the Wiki article (warning: spoilers and stuff), but it's about the 1971 Baker Street Bank robbery. A slightly more intelligent role than Jason Statham is used to being in (in fact, the previews practically had all of his movies, a real who's who of mindless mayhem). Lots of embellished stuff, but it was mildly entertaining.

"Meet the Browns": Tyler Perry's newest movie with Angela Bassett as a single mom who takes her 3 kids to Georgia for her father's funeral. Somewhat predictable but quite funny. Perry's films and plays are tremendously entertaining.

And finally:

"The Dark Knight": Best superhero movie ever? I'll buy that, but I wouldn't take my son to see it. Was wondering how it escaped an "R" rating, but it's definitely a very good flick. The use of the Joker as a foil to Batman more than a criminal genius (per the Tim Burton flick) was well crafted, and Ledger's performance was downright creepy at times. He'll get nominated for an Oscar (and probably win posthumously), but I think he would've been a strong candidate either way.

"Vantage Point" is next in the queue. Should I bother?

BAD DAD ALERT!
My 5 yr old daughter has seen it 2x now. loves it.
LOVES the Joker.

Everyone knows their kid and she's very mature/advanced when it comes to appreciating certain things that would appear out of the norm for a 5 yr old, let alone a 5 yr old girl.

Dark Knight definitely is worthy of the hype. Loved how Ledger modeled his Joker very close to the version in The Killing Joke graphic novel. I don't see where they go next now that Ledger passed away, although I hear there is rumblings about Johnny Depp playing the Riddler and Angelina playing Catwoman. Not sure how I feel about those casting choices, but then again I wasn't sure about Heath Ledger when it was first announced. Dark Knight will be tough to top that's for sure.
