I don't remember thinking it was "horrible", but it was definitely way, way, way overrated.

That's the number one movie I hear people mention as their "favorite" when they think it's underground-cool and they are desperately attempting to be original.

There was nothing redeemable about that movie besides that cat getting splattered all over the wall.

You could easily be right. I saw it once...about ten years ago. I just remember wondering what all the buzz was about and thinking it wasn't awful, but certainly wasn't very good.

I think there was a similar movie with Bob De Niro as a priest/mentor to some brothers that was much better.

Anyone see that one? Called "Sleepers" I believe

I liked the first half of Sleepers but the second half was beyond preposterous

Seen a few movies lately, most of them on airplanes:

Taken- Liam Neeson is an ex special ops guy who's daughter gets kidnapped in Paris by Albanians and sold into slavery so he goes and rescues her single-handedly. I've seen stupider movies, but not many.

Gran Torino- As fun as it is to watch Eastwood be tough and yell racial slurs and say "get off my lawn" the screenplay for this is collosally bad/obvious/forced/staged and the actors other than Eastwood are really awful. I liked how it handled racial (in)sensitivities and didn't stoop to some liberal PC pandering. Definitely entertaining despite some glaring flaws.

Revolutionary Road- Pretty depressing film about life in the suburbs. Had some nice style to it though and quality acting. Again, felt pretty forced and stagey. Should have ended 10 minutes before it did.

Control- The movie about Ian Curtis from Joy Division who committed suicide at age 23. This one is VERY good. Not knowing much about his life or his music I can't say it's an accurate depiction but this one had some great style to it and really took its time developing Curtis' breakdown: from adulterer to reluctant superstar to his increasing epilectic fits, all of which seemed to cause his downfall.

Clint Eastwood is my favorite actor, so if he yells slurs it is slightly disappointing.

Although I can see why, since Spike called him out

Just watched "Watchmen" last night and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I had no prior exposure and thought it was a little cheesy at times, but generally thought it was a fun to watch and interesting movie even for the uninitiated.

One thing I had trouble with on some level was whether or not these guys were actually superheroes.

They clearly didn't possess classic "powers", but they were also were more than just men when they fought and did stuff like that (at least they were portrayed that way in the movie).

Saw Funny People this weekend. A lot like Click. Sandler could not decide whether the movie should be funny or sad. Only the 2nd time I thought Seth Rogen was funny in a movie (Superbad). Not bad, not great.

I got that he definitely had super powers, obviously, but what was confusing (again, from someone who knew nothing about it) was how they could catch bullets and things like that.

Yeah, obviously a little suspension of belief, but he's able to use his genius to predict where the bullet would go. It did hurt him a bit too.
This is from the Watchmen wiki:

Additionally, Veidt is depicted at the pinnacle of human physical ability, to the point of being able to mentally calculate physical reaction times, anticipate the pull of a trigger, and reflexively catch a bullet (though he himself was surprised that worked).

For a Chick Flick that you are convinced will suck before the wife even puts it in the DVD player, "He's Just Not that into you" is actually not as horrible as the genre gets.

I guess that counts as a ringing endorsement.
