yeah, it's about an hour long. I've only seen them advertise it during the show

I saw the advertisement, but I thought it was just a DVD release of a previously aired episode. Fuckers.

I just started watching the first season of The Wire. 5 episodes in.

Can someone familiar with the show explain the difference between East and West Baltimore? Is it relevant? They talk about it a lot, so just wondering.

Holy shit, SZR. Welcome to the Greatest Show in TV History. I am jealous.

Just keep watching, it will work itself out and to be honest it's not all that relevent at that stage of the game. Just keep watching. I will promise you that by halfway thru the 3rd season and through the 4th you will agree that it is the best show ever, and frankly not many others come close.

I am in the process of re-watching The Wire, as well. I am about halfway through the first season (Blockbuster near me is going out of business and I got the first season for a whopping 8 bucks.)

IMO, the 3rd and 4th seasons both earn a tie for the best season of any TV series in Television history.

A lot of people thought the 5th season was terrible. I really didn't think it was that bad. The guy playing Gus Haynes did a fantastic job, IMO.

A friend of mine teaches 8th grade in North Philly. I told him to watch the 4th season of The Wire and he said that he couldn't believe how good of a job they did with that entire season.

And yes, I actually had to look it up on Wikipedia to see whether or not Snoop was male or female.

Yeah, I like it so far. Lots of characters and it's tough to learn all their names. I'm usually not a fan of police procedurals but this is done pretty well.

yeah it's really not a police procedurals, those tend to have unrelated cases every week. the wire does a great job of connecting all these seemingly independent story arcs and having it make sense.

The worst you're going to see of the Wire is season 2, and even that is better than most anything else

The Wire develops very slowly, but it really picks up around your current episode.

It's the type of show that rewards attention to detail.

Omar Little is one of the best characters I have ever seen. He's a gay, street thug version of Robin Hood.

The second you saw Maurice Levy's character and heard him speak you knew you were going to hate him.

The bald glawyer representing D'Angelo Barksdale in the opening scene of the pilot episode.

It's the only character that's an over-the-top stereotype. In the 2nd episode he's the guy who was visibly upset he had to visit the holding cell at night because his wife made him brisket for dinner.
