Bubbles = ANNOYING.
Sharrod storyline = filler material that went nowhere.
One more episode left in season 4.

I thought the reveal that Omar was taking his marching orders from Cal Ripken Jr. was far fateched at first, but they really made it work.

Finished The Wire over the weekend. Easily the best TV series I've ever seen. More thoughts to come once I get caught up at work.

I don't get the general negative consensus on season 5 of The Wire being that far below the level of quality of the other seasons. I get that Simon is doing some axe-grinding with the newsroom storyline, and that Gus and Scott have a lot less shading than the other characters (Gus = saint, Scott = bastard), but it never distracted from my enjoyment of the story.
The banter and general atmosphere feels pretty spot-on, and from a narrative standpoint, it feels like a natural place to aim the satire, as the paper is supposed to be informing the public of the city's issues that we've been following from season 1, and it does a good job of showing how that goal gets lost along the way.
The fake serial killer angle was probably a stretch, but it was wrapped up nicely.
One thing I don't get is the overwhelming love for Omar. For a show that relies so much on verisimilitude, his character felt like it belonged more in a comic book than on The Wire.
There just isn't enough time spent on his character to get into in depth the way some others are, like Colvin or McNulty or Stringer. He's a badass gangster with a moral code with zippy one-liners, who happens to be gay. He works too much on the edges and corners of the story to have that much impact on me.
He is a very interesting character, but not one that defines the show for me. Not even close.
Marlo's final scene was incredible. His best of the series.
Poor Dukie.

homeless shelter episode of Golden Girls is a tour de force.
it's amazing it's called a comedy considering the amount of "message" episodes they had vs. actual "funny" episodes
