Good gravy.

Diff'rent Strokes with Nancy Reagan. And them hitchhiking (one of the many useful uses of duct tape). And Willis' college friend dying from drinking and driving. And 'be nice to the special people'. And smoking. And the dangers of pretending to be a great musician when you're just a scrub (and the thought of Arnold playing solo after the girl walked out on him). And the redheaded stepchild getting kidnapped. And epileptic seizures. And...

Man, they had issues EVERY week, didn't they? No wonder they turned out the way they did.

At least Good Times didn't preface it with 'On a very special "Good Times"'....you knew that stuff was real every week.

my first day of college, i walked down to the university center still under construction, and there spray-painted in giant letters on a temporary wall were the words "arnold was smart, dudley got molested". it was up for months; my guess is that the administration figured it was a good lesson for us college kids to keep in mind.

There was also a Family Matter where Laura was trying to get black history added to the classes and someone left a note in her locker that read, "If yo like Black History so much then GO BACK TO AFRICA!"

Holy shit, I was JUST about to come on here and type that, EAG. Didn't they actually write 'Nigger' in her locker, as well?

I remember one episode of Step-By-Step (IMO, the white equivalent of Family Matters. Shit, they used the exact same house) where Frank was re-modeling the house of an ex-GF while Carol was pregnant. They had a scene where Carol was imagining Frank cheating on her. As a kid and before the days of internet porn, that scene was pretty eye-opening for a PG-rated show.

I didn't think there were any non-blacks in their school on that show.

On the subject of new TV, nod to Tosh.0 at 1030 on Comedy Central on wed. It's basically Talk Soup for the Internet.

A lot like Chappelle's Show but with much longer staying power (viewers do the research for the show and the Internet is limitless for bits to mock.).

I just watched the first disc of the first season of Arrested Development, having never seen the show before. It's just OK.

Does it get better from here?

I loved Arrested Development from the start, too. I think it worked for some people and just didn't work for others, though, which is one of the reasons it flamed out.

I think it was absolutely amazing.

"Modern Family" better get ready to roll out about 8 straight weeks of new episodes or they can start warming up the motorcycle.

I think these TV shows got really lazy with the Olympics on. Almost all of them went on a 4 week break and most of them don't have that kind of popularity.

I'll keep watching just because my wife likes it. There are a few laughs an episode but it relies a LOT of visual gags that just aren't that funny. I'm not saying it's bad but with all the hype and cult following I was expecting more.
