Dana White is hilarious.
” … ‘CBS is coming in! CBS is coming! Oh my God!’ You saw the CBS fight. Kimbo Slice wouldn’t win ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ And I’m not being a wise ass, that’s the truth.
“The last guy he fought (James Thompson), they got him from the (expletive) morgue. That’s where they got that guy. He’s been knocked out his last five fights. And he was beating Kimbo’s ass before his ear exploded. Which is insane too. How could that fight even happen with his ear looking like that? Nobody knows how to drain an ear? … “

I stopped reading your misguided fight recap right after you said Rampage did nothing else besides the 1 punch in Round 1. I guess you missed the great 3 punch combo and a left hook shortly after said combo BEFORE the knockdown, as well as a few other good shots before the end of the round. Pathetic.

BMA,
It is times like these that I really wish the UFC wasn’t such a copyright nazi in dealing with youtube.
After I watched the fight live, I came away thinking Rampage dominated the first round. A punch like he hit griffin with has a way of doing that to the viewer’s perspective. But when I watched it again, I soon realized that Rampage:
1. didn’t really land hard on those combinations you mentioned
2. didn’t do anything to finish Griffin after the big punch (why I don’t know but it still pisses me off).
I’m not misguided BMA, just honest. I can’t stand Griffin and really wanted Rampage to destroy him.

Munch, why the dislike of Griffin? I kinda get a kick out of his Howdie Doodie like personna. Just seems like an "aw shucks" kinda guy that happens to be able to fight. If there is anyone I found detestable from the UFC reality peeps it was Chris Leben.

I'm using this is an MMA thread. Weird story here...Rampage was arrested a couple days ago after a high speed chase, release on bail, and now he's be taken to mental health facility because his friends felt he was a danger to himself and others.

Wow,
I hope he is ok.
On an unimportant note I guess that rules out a quick rematch with griffin for him.

A little different matchup but didn't want to start a new thread. Anyone going to watch the Cotto-Margarito fight? I think this should be a good fight. I've been wrong too many times before but both of these guys seem like the "till you drop" types.

I've kinda ben away from boxing for a little while. Is this a PPV?
Cotto was/is a rising star, but he's a bit unspectacular.

Cotto's last two bouts were against legit competition. He beat Zab Judah (who against his norm went 10 rounds) soundly and went the distance with Shane Mosely. Mosely was in his twighlight but he forced Cotto to counterpunch more than stalk (which is his norm).
Margarito is considered the dangerous fight to take. Several people including Mayweather passed on fighting him. His record is like 39-5. Three of those losses were in his first 10 fights as a pro (he went pro when he was 15). Another loss came against Paul Williams whom he could have beaten but started boxing too late.
It is a PPV event, FD. Its also strongly considered a candidate for fight of the year. Two guys who don't back down. Once a brawler, the other a good body puncher and solid boxer. Should be fun.

For those of you who like boxing...last night was fkn awesome. Great energy that poured through (or possibly the cummulative effects of many beverages) screen. I usually go to this place that's a "sports" bar that tends to attract the riff-raff and trashy chicks (like the latter). Lots of guys went in covered with Mexican or Puerto Rican flags...pretty cool.
Great fight. Margarito has to be shot to be stopped. Took tons of punishment but seemed largely indifferent to it. I was watching Chris Leben and some other dude fighting on UFC, and just the dramatic difference of solid style compared to haymakers and roundhouse punches was a reminder as to why I find myself vacillating between MMA and boxing. I understand that different fighter have different styles, submission artists vs strikers, brawlers vs tacticians, dunno. Felt like the difference between playoff football and hockey. Like both for different reasons but prefer world class boxing a little more. Wish both sports would clean up how they arrange fights. But that's another story.

I'll stop "bumping" this thread. Saw an older WEC fight between Miura and Carlos Condit. Unbelievably great fight. Made me relook at judo again.
For those with HBO/on-demand, they are now showing the Cotto-Margarito fight and the Clottey-Juday fight.
The former was unfreakin' believable. I'd never seen someone get hit so hard his ears were flapping. But he continued right through it. Never, ever saw a chin like Margarito's. Highly recommend it.
