Wait, you carry a concealed weapon with you at all times when you are out of the house? Holy shit, that would be a terrible idea for me. When I am drinking, belongings on my person are in DEEP trouble. Ask my cell phone.

Like I said, I will take my chances there instead of leaving myself at the mercy of a wolfpack like Sean Conroy.
That's fine and I completely understand. I'm just saying that while I believe carrying the handgun makes you feel better, I doubt you're really any safer.
The reason I think I support banning handguns in cities is because murder rate decrease when the bans go in effect. I can't tell you why they do, exactly, but they do.
Like the guy who was murdered for his iPod...he could have been armed and it wouldn't have mattered. His attackers didn't propose a draw at high noon...they just put one in him, took the iPod, and ran.

so youre saying neag can't handle his piece in a fight?
HA! I have no idea how capable EAG is with his sidearm, but most people who attack you do so with an element of surprise. It's not like they warn you it's coming, apporach slowly by themselves, and give you an opportunity to protect yourself.

Do you have a link to that iPOD story? Christ, how dumb do you have to be to shoot someone for an iPOD? You could trade the damn gun in for one or two of them at a pawn shop.

No, I know. I was just trying to imagine myself stumbling around later tonight with a gun in my pocket. Playing along, I guess.

Try taking a shotgun blast in the mouth for $1 and a beeper.
And most don't obtain guns for a trade, unless it's "your money or your life".

By the way, B. Hussein Ob-ma has been anti-murder for years. McCain has been suspiciously quiet on the subject...

He was probably not killed so much for the ipod as he was the extensive library of Country and Western and Indie Rock songs on it. Being an hour from Minneapolis (a very modern and eclectic music town) he was probably KB-esque with his Ipod library and had the 60 Gig. At 99 cents a pop that sucker was probably worth almost 10 Grand.

Probably right. His elitist MP3 player and music library might have been his undoing.
You never hear about anyone getting capped for their Sansui MP3 player with generic black ear buds, either.

I am definitely not blaming the victim in this case because he was from out of town and maybe naive, but I would never walk around late at night with an ipod in this city.
I also wouldn't wear mini-skirts.

That's why I carry my Sony Discman.
Sike.
But there's something reassuring about having some cold, hard, Bavarian steel on your hip.
You could even give up your valubles and when they turn to leave, start blasting.

I should be clear in the fact that I'm not a gun control maniac or anything. I like guns and I think the decision that came down isn't a bad one...I just think there is a lot of room for interpretation and more guns doesn't make a place safer.
I personally believe it's not hard to get the drop on someone and keeping a handgun on me wouldn't do much unless I wanted to play Die Hard when I saw someone else getting mugged.
For the home, I also think handguns are just overrated. They are handy and small 20ish" pump action, 12 gauge riot gun makes more sense to me. In the worst case scenario, you will not miss. It also doubles as a tool that gives you distance if it jams or in a hand-to-hand situation.
If its the weapon of choice for swat teams in close quarters/houses/buildings, it makes sense for me. I think a gun in the home makes a lot of sense and you might actually be able to use it to defend your family if (again) the worst happens. I just think the 12 gauge is a better weapon for that task and not as good for criminals because its difficult to carry around unnoticed (unless you have an Omar-style London Fog).

Well, if "urban" youth want to go and "catch a body" for sport, as they did to Sean Conroy, I am not going to have time to rationalize "root causes" of their behavior like Fred does here on the concourse.
I will, however, have time to emulate Bernard Goetz.
So to all law abiding citizens, I have three words. It's not B Husein's "Yes we can!", but rather a more tried and tested mantra:
LOCK AND LOAD!!!!

Neag, IMO you are two steps away from psychotic.
Some might argue you're already there, bud.
Being one of these "urbanized people" I'd like to act as spokesman and announce our thanks to Neag-
Thank you Neag for advertising the fact that you carry a handgun to anyone wishing to relieve you of it and your wallet. We will post a bulletin on our board recommending that robbing you will require an assault rifle (preferably modified full auto) from a distance - I know, I know- difficult to acquire in an "urban setting" but we will make efforts to spread the word around the city.
Thanks again

Think handguns should be outlawed in this country. However I see no reason to have shotgun or other rifles in your home for hunting or killing thugs, buglars or other pests who might try and make your day a bad one.
12 gauge shotguns rule. Come on punk make my day.

Like I learned from playing video games- if there's gonna be a shootin' give me the sniper rifle. I see your shotgun, run away, then turn around and end you- 1 shot, 1 kill.

NTFF... Too much talk and not enough action is always the downfall of many a "brotha" in the city.. I prefer to shoot first and ask questions or, POST memos later...

John Kerry opened up a 17 point lead after securing the nomination in 2004. Elections aren't won in June. The fact that Barry isn't further ahead should be troubling to Barry Kool Aid drinkers.
Most of these polls are junk, anyway. One poll that had Barry up double digits was a poll of "adults" not even registered voters. I take all of these polls with a tidal wave of salt.
