Evangelists who DON'T understand, I mean.

I find it hard to believe that domestic issues supersede the second coming of Christ on an evangelist's list of "things I'd like to see happen in the world."

If you don't believe there is a real, powerful groundswell of support for Israel from the Christian right based on religious prophecy, then you need to wake up.

I think they consider it on some level, but growing up around evangelicals, I have to say it rarely 9if ever) came up.

Like Seth (I think) mentioned above, it's mostly abortion, prayer in schools, ten commandments, the gheys, "under God", and the war on W-nter Break/Tree Day.

OH, and "intelligent design".

The 2nd coming is goin to happen- whether there's turmoil over there or whatever. They know that.

According to their interpretations the second coming will occur IN ISRAEL after the armageddon battle between East and West. I am not making this up. They want it as soon as possible and hope to shape foreign policy around their wish.

And yes, this is a RECENT movement led by the likes of Hagee, so growing up you would not have heard much about it in your household.

While i believe in accepting Christ as your savior, essentially "being saved" i am OUT like SHOUT for the Evangelical side of stuff.

I mean: The Evangelicals will use (intentionally) very sound bits of christianity and mix it into their teachings/beliefs in an attempt at legitimacy.

And confuse.

See, to you FD- being "SAVED" is a apparently something exclusive to evangelicals and wack jobs.

While they toss the term around and give it a slightly radical twist, the actual term "Saved" does stand for something between a person and Christ.
Period.

Amazingly enough, I went to a church and the preacher stated that this is the only way to get saved, completing missing the point that salvation is not dependent on our own works. It's a misconception that's held by some preachers, and is pointed out specifically with the thief on the cross.

In any event, some people are playing a very dangerous game, using the fear of the Second Coming to push forward with their own agendas. The Tom Delay comment has me somewhat disturbed, because he can't be the only one who thinks this way.

And yet you're able to stomach Eagles games? Must not have been THAT scary.

I went to Catholic school my whole life, and every year we would do the Right to Life March in Washington DC.

We were given instructions to not reply to the fanatical counter-protestors there, who would mock us with "Keep your Rosaries out of our ovaries" chants, and get up and scream in our faces. We were explicitly told by the Disciplinarian that "anyone who replies to these people in a hateful manner of with an anti-homosexual or anti-Semetic comment will be immediatly suspended and it will be noted in your permanent record"

The water park at Heritage USA rocked!

I never had to do any of the shows or services though.

That park had the third most visitors world wide at one point in the 80s behind only the Disney parks.
