f-d,
Found this on Reuters:

"I'll make oil companies like Exxon pay a tax on their windfall profits, and we'll use the money to help families pay for their skyrocketing energy costs and other bills," the Illinois senator said.

Super. Wonder where Exxon will get the money to pay the new tax?

Out of curiosity, if it was the good Rev. Wright saying AmeriKKKa is funding taxpayer supported genocide on African-Americans (not J. Sydney's), do you think THAT might have made a headline?

Just curious.

Probably. I happen to agree with that.

I think the main problem people had with Wright was "GOD DAMN AMERIKKKA!!!!"

I agree completely, but he same can be said of any political ploy on either side.

If J. Sydney further cuts taxes on the corporations already running this country, do you think they'll be "passin the savings" onto you and I or issuing company-wide raises?

You guys here this one?

Obama's never released his birth certificate.

To the media. I love that someone says "I bet he isn't even AmeriKKKan!" and he's immediately expected to "prove" it. Does anyone really believe he made it this far in his life, and through the last few months, without ever being a citizen or producing a birth certificate?

It's retarded.

I don't think J. Sydney should be expected to carry around the muskrat pelt his tribal leader crudely etched his birth date into to "prove" he's Amerikkkan.

I don't think he should release it, but I don't think candidates should have to release income records, health records, military service records, etc. It's the over-abuse of snooping that's driven good candidates from elections even before they start.

He had to give it to (at least) the Democratic national party to get this far, so it's a moot point.

It's just crazy how far some of the far-right zealots will go. I don't think they ever intended to find something...they just wanted the question to be out there so the people who only get their news from a crazy radio guy get to hear about "the murkiness and confusion" surrounding everything about Obama.

Unless your point is "they are getting an equal ration of shit", I don't want to hear about.

The Interwebs is a pretty big place and isolated links here and there don't mean a thing. Further, make it apples to apples. Show me the articles asking whether or not McCain is American. Thus far, there have been the normal shots you'd expect (questions asked) of all the candidates and a separate smear campaign against B. Hussein. We all agree on that.

It will be interesting to see how everything develops, though. All I've heard for months is the "free pass" B. Hussein has had whole he's getting trashed. I can't wait until the seedy far-right really loads up.

You need to disclose those things when you apply for loans or monetary issues, health records for a job in the form of (do you have a problem that would prevent you from doing your job)...those things seem reasonable to me. I agree that the way its done is tactless aka ignorant.

NEAG, ignorant is also doubles as "rude" here in western Pa.

There actually were a lot of articles questioning his citizenship because he was born on a base in Panama.

That didn't happen. I would say the debate was revisited on what constitutes a natural born citizen, but no one questioned his citizenship.

I should rephrase. They questioned his eligibility to run for President. It's the same as what they're doing to Obama, but it's in the same ballpark.

ENOUGH.

This is ridiculous painting Obama as the target of some all out, credible smear campaign.

Mainstream media has done nothing short of annoint him the second coming.

Only hacks, self serving blowhards & a pocketful of a very narrow sect with access to airwaves is participating in a fear driven campaign to besmirch the mighty Obama.

And as i said in the opening paragraph- those sources are largely dismissed as the laughable motards that they are.

Stop.
Honestly.

FD- not tryin to single you out but i guess i am- you are tending to take the tact you have in the past with McNabulous with regards to how unfair it is- all the undue scrutiny by 'the media' when again- its a small sect, and on the larger front the guy's hailed and thought of in an overall very positive light.

Seth, you have to get real. Really real.

What do you consider mainstream media? Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh reach tens tens upon tens of millions of people, very week and have been running full-out, organized smear campaigns against him for months.

Do you disagree?

Again, you're colors are shining through here. the idea that he's getting a "free pass" is a gross myth. There's been no annointing whatsoever. That idea is a product of the sector of the media actively working against him, which you claim no one in their right mind listens to.

I think he's been given a fair ride from some people out there and has been been a target by others out there.

I'm defending him against the smut in this thread...that's all.

I didn't get the impression that anyone was annointing him anything. On CNN, Malveux (sp?), Gergen (former Clinton advisor to Bill), etc frequently tend to be critical of him. Not necessarily all out smearing him. I remember listening to the CNN money programming and how they just trailed off without criticizing McCain's energy policy. The problem with an "all out" smear campaign is that there isn't very much to smear. He's pretty polished (teleprompter reader only as some would suggest) and doesn't often make mistakes publically.

As Bill Maher said in April, for Hillary to win the nomination (then of course), "she'd have to raise more money, convince more voters that she's their best choice and Jeremiah Wright would have to rape a white woman". The pastor thing was way overblown.

I didn't see near 24 hour news coverage on McCain confusing Shias and Sunnis when addressing the Senate Armed Forces committee or him talking about meeting the German President Putin to discuss avoiding resurrecting the cold war.

When smearing the following issues are notable:

* length of coverage particularly in light of the triviality of the matter (replaying Wright's segments on Amerikkka over 120 times on TV)

* the portrayl of the matter (ignoring important contexts)

* and the pundit commentary to "explain" the significance to the viewer

Those things have all existed for him. Do I think it was necessary? No. Overblown? Oftentimes.

In fairness, FD, McCain gets shit too. Not as much as BO over Wright vs Hagee/McCain.

Couple things.

First MSNBC is the Obama Channel. They are so deep in the tank, it's embarrassing.

Next, Obama has appeared on how many news magazine front covers in the past year? Did the 11 or so major magazine covers come with hit or fluff pieces?

Obama was getting hit more because he had two candidate machines gunning for him - Hillary's and Sydney's. That will no longer be the case.

Finally, drawing comparisons between Hagee and Wright just doesn't wash to those without a "dog in the fight" between McCain and Obama. Obama sat in the church and listened for 20 years to the lunatic ramblings of an ideologue. The only time he actually heard the sermons, apparently, is when he left the church for the campaign trail. McCain's cozying to Hagee was a temporary one and one that he jettisoned.

You can't expect non-fanboys (McCain and Obama fanboys) to get worked up about a disparity when the situations were clearly different.

I gave a run-down of Obama flubs in the other thread. Put a microphone in front of anybody and you get things like that.

If you want to trumpet McCain's Sunni-Shia flub, you have to expect the "10,000 deaths" to get the same airplay.
