We aren't going over there for the European dream, much less illegally going there and hiding out in some sanctuary city like they do here in San Francisco. We go there for vacation or business, not to live some socialized European Union lifestyle.

I stidued Spanish in high school and college. Never really used it and, as a result, I would only be able to stumble out words and phrases.

OK, issues. Let's talk Iran. I think that's going to be a MAJOR shitstorm probably around the time the fools in this country put Barry in the White House.

It's going to get worse once Iran photoshops enough missile launches to make Israel bomb them, and Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri's homeland shuts off the oil.

I'm thinking this whole situation is going to develop just as Barry is taking over. How he handles it will be telling. It's gonna be like JFK and Cuba, except Obama doesn't have his smarter, younger brother to give him advice.

Iran's got a major weakness that will keep them from doing anything major. They have very little internal refining capacity and depend on the kindness of neighbors.

Doesn't mean we ignore them, but they're doing more sabre-rattling then they could ever afford. Plus, the "decapitation" strategy of taking out the leadership and government structure would be very effective, given the structure of the government and the sentiment of the average Iranian.

The guy, Ahmanijad, doesn't have widespread support from the clergy running Iran. Their economy has been in trouble for years, they face increased international scrutiny which hampers business deals, and I think I read somewhere that they can't account for a sizeable portion of their budget.

Plus, he's a gay...

Here's the story.

What happened to the US$35 billion of oil revenues that Iran's Shabab News, in a now notorious account, claims disappeared from official accounting during the year through March 2008? Half the country's oil revenues disappeared from the books. A great deal of it left the country for banks in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere; capital flight already was running at a $15 billion annual rate last year, by my estimate.

To put that in perspective, that's about 5% of the entire nation's GDP that went *poof*. If it happened in the US, it would mean about $690 billion disappeared one year from the government budget.

Thanks for that link. I don't think they are a problem at all. Ron Paul said that the CIA reports and numerous unannounced visits to their sites show nothing in regards to enriching uranium for a weapon. Israel is the one that needs to settle down, imo. Hell, if Iran has a nuclear weapon, so what? Everyone else around them does and Israel is always strutting around like a peacock in heat.

Dr. Paul also mentioned some bill in a speech before the 4th of July that will come up for vote soon...it essentially will place all kinds of sanctions on Iran that basically shuts down the country down.

I'm with EVERYONE else on this Dino. I think its stupid to force everyone to learn spanish. Many friends and/or their parents etc were immigrants who quickly learned english. Can't see why this is an issue. Nor do I care. Why not learn A second or third language? Fine by me. Learn French, Italian, German, Latin (useful for the grammar-clueless clowns), etc. Spanish need not be the requirement.

FISA was a traitorous move by "Barry" and was the second time he voted along those lines when he voted against net neutrality which would affect sites like the 700level.com.

Lots of credibility went into the toilet with that vote.

What power has the government been given, in regards to FISA, that 1) they already didn't have and 2) is unprecedented in our history?

I can understand skepticism. That's natural and healthy. But every government program has the chance to be abused. So, you look at the law and ask, "Is there a suitable mechanism to provide oversight? Can the mechanism act correct the problems when they occur?"

I think the amendments to the FISA bill that passed recently provide safeguards. I also think that groups, like the ACLU, will be on active guard and have an effective means to get the attention of the people. In other words, we've given the government revisions to powers they already had and we have government and civil safeguards in place to watch for abuses.

Sounds like a healthy, though not ideal, environment.

I'm not going to join the outrage bandwagon on this one. The government revised an existing program to keep in step with a changing world, has adequate safeguards in place, and has private civil organizations that participate in the "watching the watchers" job.

Regarding the whole telecom suit thing, that's just a sham to the trial lawyers. Bush, with all of a whopping 29% approval rating, said he'd never sign it unless they were given immunity (under certain conditions stipulated in the amendment). The Democratic Congress blinked. I don't think they did it out of lack of principle, as much as it was, "Sorry, trial lawyers, you're not getting this goodie."

MY GOODMAN: So what does this mean now for you? What does this legislation, if passed by the Senate, mean for that lawsuit?

MARK KLEIN: Well, this legislation will direct the court to dismiss all the cases against AT&T and other companies, if they can just show they have a piece of paper showing that they got an order from the President to do this. It’s—I call it the Nuremberg defense: “We were just following orders.” The judge won’t be able to rule on whether the law—the order was legal. He can only rule on where they got this piece of paper. It’s a ridiculous ruling and attempt by the Congress to gag the judge and prevent him from ruling on the legality of the order, and the judge has to simply just determine that their paperwork is in order. So everybody knows, if this bill passes, the judge will be forced to dismiss the cases.

AMY GOODMAN: And what will this mean, in terms of, for example, the AT&T case, and in terms of you coming forward as a whistleblower?

MARK KLEIN: Well, I assume the case will just get dismissed, and it’ll never happen. I’ll never get called. There will never be any hearings. It will die, and you’ll never find out what they did. And that was the point of having this lawsuit. It wasn’t about getting money out of the companies. I wouldn’t get anything, by the way; I’m just a witness, I’m not a party to this lawsuit. And it was about finding out what happened. And that’s why they want to kill the lawsuit.

I don't think his case was going anywhere, regardless of the FISA amendment. I admit, though, that I don't know every detail about his case.

OPEC tried to come to the rescue of Iran today, by giving some warning about how important Iran's oil supply is, and if they are attacked, OPEC will raise prices never seen..blah..blah..blah....

Fact is, Iran has a very limited supply of Oil. I in an Italian paper a couple months ago(watchingamerica.com) that there Oil supply by 2015 will be so low, that they will not be able to export any of it, in order to feed there own need. Forcing Iran to loose there ability to export oil, is the fastest way to cripple them.
