Meaning, it's amazing how quickly some people will come to the defense of a black man accused of sexual harrassment

No more hugs as Obama tears into McCain
By BETH FOUHY – 1 hour ago
RENO, Nev. (AP) — So much for hugging in church.
A day after Barack Obama and John McCain exchanged an embrace during a faith forum at a California megachurch, Obama called the U.S. economy a disaster thanks to "John McCain's president, George W. Bush," and chided his Republican rival's campaign team for trying to make him look unpatriotic and weak.
At a town hall meeting with several hundred union members, Obama said he had had a great conversation with McCain at the forum at Saddleback Church sponsored by the popular evangelical pastor Rick Warren. The two candidates shook hands, briefly hugged and stood onstage with Warren, the first time they appeared together in public since the end of the primary season.
But Sunday, after praising the Arizona senator as a "genuine American patriot," the Democratic presidential hopeful got back to business — methodically tearing into McCain's health care, tax and energy policies and criticizing his advisers.
"McCain says 'Here's my plan, I'm going to drill here, drill now which is something he only came up with two months ago when he started looking at polling," Obama said of McCain's energy policy.
The GOP hopeful has become a vocal proponent of offshore oil drilling as a way to ease U.S. dependence on foreign oil and has criticized Obama for failing to embrace it as a way to help bring down oil prices. Obama noted that McCain had long opposed lifting the moratorium on offshore drilling.
The Illinois senator also criticized McCain's advisers as "the same old folks that brought you George W. Bush. The same team." He noted many had been lobbyists in Washington before McCain asked them to sever all lobbying ties.
Obama added, "They say this other guy is unpatriotic, or this guy likes French people. That's what they said about Kerry," referring to the 2004 Democratic nominee who lost narrowly to Bush. "They try to make it out like Democrats aren't tough enough, aren't macho enough. It's the same strategy."
Earlier this summer, McCain handed day to day operation of his campaign to Steve Schmidt, a veteran GOP strategist who was a spokesman for Bush during the 2004 campaign. Most of his other top advisers are longtime loyalists who have worked for McCain for years.
Even so, Obama stepped to McCain's defense when a voter criticized his Vietnam era record. A Naval aviator, McCain spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war there after being shot down and badly wounded.
"Respectfully I'm going to disagree with you on McCain and his service," Obama said. "I think his service was honorable. He deserves respect."

I don't understand where this idea that B.O. is some kind of talking puppet comes from.
He's much smarter than McCain. He's a better public speaker than McCain. He's more engaging than McCain. He is much more educated than McCain.
Those are all facts, yet the idea that Obama is stupid, doesn't understand policy, and can't speak off the cuff continue to be floated out there by the right.
Can I ask why? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I thought Obama more than held his own in front of an audience that is extremely unlikely to vote for a democrat. Huge surprise that BMA noticed his 2 flubs...
McCain did very well also (probably better, actually) except for the $5 million flub and the over use of "my friends." Huge surprise that BMA didn't point out McCain's flub...

I thought this was interesting, but I don't know that it means much of anything:
Obama Tops in Donations from Troops
By Matthew Mosk
An analysis of political contributions from soldiers on the battlefield has produced some unexpected results.
The Center for Responsive Politics has found that the presidential candidate with a record as a bona fide war hero is garnering far less financial support from the troops than the Harvard-trained lawyer.
"Democrat Barack Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions than has Republican John McCain, and the fiercely anti-war Ron Paul, though he suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination months ago, has received more than four times McCain's haul," the report said.
The report also included this surprise: "Members of the armed services overall -- whether stationed overseas or at home -- are also favoring Obama with their campaign contributions in 2008.... Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel have gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama."
The analysis of campaign records found Obama has raised more than $60,000 from 134 military service men and women who are deployed overseas. McCain has raised $45,512 from 99 deployed military-donors.

I thought McCain was better Saturday night than he has been at any other time during this campaign. The $5 million remark was obviously a joke and the crowd understood that by their LAUGHTER but Dino didn't, shocker.
The "my friends" stuff is tired, all old coots have some quirks. He's never said anything that would rally me to vote for him, but he was clearly better than Barry Saturday night.

Was in the drug store Saturday buying some cigarettes and condoms when a black woman butted in front of me in line. I said, "Excuse me, I'm in line here." She ignored me. Getting annoyed, I said, "Get to the back of the line and wait your turn"
She got out of line, and as she was walking back she turned to me and yelled, "YOU JUST WAIT UNTIL OBAMA IS PRESIDENT!!!!"

Off topic, but I did happen to stop at a gas station last week. The woman opposite me at the pump waddled in and had to have the clerk come out to show her how to pump gas. She politely thanked him and started to "fill" her car. She pumped for what could not have resulted in more than about a dollars worth of gas, plummeted back into her car and drove off.

BMA,
I realize it was a joke but it's still a flub because it will get used (out of context) by his opponent.

Gotta love Barry's camp claiming McCain knew all the questions during that forum Saturday night. After watching that in it's entirety, it's obvious why Barry has avoided the town hall debates.

That meeting and moderator were both setup to get the McCain pro-life message out.
I have no idea if he knew the questions in advance and I don't care, but that was an extremely hostile crowd/moderator for a liberal.

If you want to use the venue excuse, then Barry should have fired his campaign manager the minute that it was brought up.

I'm not makign any excuses...I think he did fine.
I was accurately pointing out that a pro-life conservative minister asked the questions in front of a pro-life conservative crowd with 1 pro-life condidate.
It's not exactly rocket science that Obama entered that room as a slight underdog.
What's weird, is he's gaining in the polls again.
I think the VP nominations could give one of these canidates the bump they need to either make this a race to the finish line or a pre-determined blowout.
