Wait, wait, wait. In 2004, John Kerry was a "gigolo" with a "sugar daddy wife" as described by Rush Limbaugh multiple times, but John McCain is "just a long-term senator" even though he has the EXACT SAME bio? Politics is stupid.

"McCain has fuck you money."

Relative to the common man he purports to represent, so does Obama.

I'm out for their Utopian look at things. Michelle talks last night about the sacrifices her father made to an adoring, primarily white (with a few exceptions) audience. Why doesn't she start with the importance of BEING a father to the people she represents.

That's part of what I am saying, ATown, Kerry in 2004 is/was, financially speaking, the Genetic Double of McCain. And now McCain is an out of touch enemy for not being able to count his houses. Nice consistency, Dems.

I know...it's just dumb.

The conservative radio and news broadcasts are full of horrible people with absolutely no honor. The closest thing on the other side is probably Air America and Keith Olbermann, but the Rush/Hannity/Fox news crew is brutal.

If I thought it was valid at all, you could go through mcCain "shady connections" the same way they've attacked Obama's, but I don't think it matters since every politician is essentially the same guy in a different package, with slighly different core political beliefs/goals.

GGB, $1 million net worth at 47 (including house and retirenment savings) isn't fuck you money. That's "I can possibly look into retirement at age 60 if I keep working hard" money.

"Nice consistency, Dems"

I think the inconsistency is in both camps, equally.

I do think the example points though to part of why Kerry and McCain are/were weak candidates. I mean, who admits to not knowing how to use a PC? Honestly?

My wife's 95 year old grandfather emails her every day.

I think if you were to go back and look at the thread of four years ago, you'd see that many of us thought that Kerry was out of touch.

Nevertheless, just like many conservatives are half-assedly supporting McCain because they believe he's better than the alternative, many liberals felt the same way about Kerry. The vote was more anti-Bush than pro-Kerry, and I don't think anyone could dispute that.

Denver is a long walk from my neighborhood, NEAG.

Plus, opposing the war in Iraq is no longer radical-- it's a mainstream point of view.

Going back to the money theme...

I know people with a net worth of $1 million. (And let's just say that TheTalon's net worth is far, far south of that figure.) I also know a couple of people with a net worth north of $30 million.

I can tell you that regardless of the income disparity, I have things in common with those with a net worth of $1 million, but I have almost nothing in common with those with a net worth north of $30 million. Okay, I'll admit that we all like oxygen, but that's about it. There's a world of lifestyle differences between $1 million and $30 million, let alone $130 million.

Moreover, if Obama took a job in 1985 that paid him $10,000/year, I think he has some degree of understanding for what it's like to live on a minimal amount of money. As the son of a decorated admiral, I don't think McCain has that experience.

I have nothing against bettering yourself economically (most of us are trying to do that), but if you don't have the experience of living on a lower-middle or lower class salary, I don't think you can truly relate to understand the problems these people face.

Opposing the war is not radical but marching with fake coffins is something that a radical leftist who owns a che t shirt would do. Just saying/

I also like your point on money. We should only have working class heros run for president. Imagine that.

It would be like my father telling me, "Sorry son, you can never become President....Father is too wealthy"

No one has any issues with making money and almost everyone wants more money than they have. I'm not personally putting Obama or McCain's finances into the equation at all and I don;t think many other people will.

However, I find it odd that the same republicans who demonized Kerry for being wealthy now use it as a positive for McCain AND STILL try to paint Obama as the elitist between the two.

I think the argument is stupid on either side, but I'm just amazed that the republican base falls for all the twists and turns.

It was funny seeing the Obamas, especially that doll Michelle, try to show people that they are "just like us"

Actually, no. I didn't grow up in Indonesia. I didn't get into an Ivy League School b/c of Affirmitive Action. I don't associate with terrorists. I don't believe in a woman's "right" to murder. At my church the priest never said "GOD DAMN AMERICA!!!"

But hey, other than that, they're JUST LIKE YOU AND ME!!!

By the way, Obama didn't get in to an Ivy league school from affirmative action. Didn't list his race on the application.

After we marched with the parents and grandparents of dead soldiers, we ran through the streets, pouring red paint on anyone wearing fur, throwing roadkill carcasses on the tables of outdoor cafes that serve meat, and then we firebombed city hall just for the hell of it.

I also like your point on money.
