Do you guys cringe when Politicians (as they did repeatedly last night) use the phrase "God Bless America"?
No. Pretending to be a good Christian is a requirement for politics. Just like being able to suck the chrome off a fender is a requirement for being an actress.

To a degree, yes.
Personally, I believe in God, and if God wants to take time out of its day to bless America, that's very nice. Probably unrealistic but a pleasant, reassuring thought, nonetheless.
However, it is hilarious how every political speech needs to end with some reference to God. I really like Hillary's "God bless America and Godspeed!" Afterwards, I wondered if we were sailing somewhere. Everyone tries to weave in the God reference at the end, and some go with a "God bless you," (Bill Clinton) while others bust out a "God bless America and God protect our troops (or something like that)" (Joe Biden). I think Kerry may have been the only one yesterday who didn't close with some God action. I guess he forgot about it.
This is the same as wearing a cute American flag lapel pin. It means absolutely nothing, and it's actually degrading that wearing a pin in considered definite proof of someone's patriotism, yet it's a necessary evil. You have to wear a flag pin and close your speech with a reference to God, or you won't be able to appeal to the lowest common denominator voters. You know, the kind of person NEAG pretends to be.

Talon, I don't see how caring about the rights of an unborn child is being stupid or uniformed or a "lowest common denominator"
I have felt this way my whole life.
Anyone who has seen an ultrasound and still supports this "right" is unconscionable.

Wait - doesn't that protect the Obama campaign's right to whine as well? (not disputing the whining part)

Yeah...I must have missed "slander" when reading the first ammendment. He, and others have been trying to slander Obama with this ridiculous connection for months and I don't see it as a problem that his campaign is actively fighting the lies so they aren't making the same mistake Kerry's camp did (figuring voters know bullshit when they smell it).
BMA, can you share the chokcing results of the Krutz investigation? We're all intrigued. I'll give you a hint (he found absolutely nothing).
Also, I love that this Ayers character is most often referred to (in very orchestrated terms) as "Unrepentant domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers".
Did Obama meet him when they were in Gitmo together...or serving the community together?

I think some people must be on vacation over at dailyrightwingtalkingpoints.com today. That one is a stretch even by BMA's standards.

Also on Rush watch, the word "Messiah" or "God" appears 7 times on his homepage, in reference to Obama. "Chicago street thug" appears once.

Considering Cindy McCain appears as though she has received Botox injections directly into her eyeballs, you would think they would leave the wives appearances alone.

The lowest common denominator voter doesn't like to actually read what is written and instead just draws his or her own conclusions, in this case injecting words such as "stupid" or "uninformed."
You play this role well. I'm impressed with your commitment to it.
For the record, not for one second do I think you give a shit about unborn children. It's so seldom that anything you say is believable and is anything more than a ploy for more attention. If not for your creepy, public lusting after certain individuals, I wouldn't even believe you are gay.

If McCain is elected, Roe v Wade is on thin ice...believe that.
The guy is as pro life as anyone out there and will have the opportunitiy (more than likely) to replace at least 2 liberal leaning justices in the next 4 years (unless Stevens serves into his early 100's).
If you've got a supreme court willing to overturn it, a president willing to overturn it, and a democratic congress with a zero approval rating coming up in 2 years, I wouldn't just take RVW for granted.
i personally don't believe that will happen (remember, SC justices don't necessarily vote the way that the president who appointed them would). but you're right, it's not out of the question - abortion could become a thing that states could decide for themselves. it would never be outright banned; even the conservative justices don't want that.
but it brings up a larger point, one that should be considered for those that are dems but are thinking about mccain - the power of the prez. to appoint justices. and i certainly don't want another conservative in there, so my vote is pretty much set for that reason alone.

talon, i believe your last sentence there pretty much sums up why people are drawn to the idea of god in the first place.

It's the only thing keeping me from bailing right now, but I still won't make a final decision either way.
Quite honestly, I think of myself as a conservative, but I'm not a big fan of the evil empire.

Well, only a dyed in the wool New York liberal would thnk it unbelievable that someone "gives a shit" about unborn children.
And who are these "certain individuals"?

NEAG, have YOU seen the ultrasound of an 8-12 week old fetus? It looks like a comma with a blinking cursor in the middle.
