It's like Bible in that it has too many discrepancies, so that zealots find what they want in it.

that's convenient.

Which Philly crime did God commit?

I'm not too familiar with the Old Testament but wasn't one of the plague right after locusts and right before frogs actually "flash mobs"?

Doesn't the Jewish religion instruct followers to take advantage of non-Jews and swindle them in any way possible?

This is another flash mob. A group of 500 on them descended on South Street and haggled several shopkeepers to death.

well, even if it did, we'd still need to be smarter than the gentiles to pull it off.

Or just more brazen.

All the time you hear shit from Jews....theirs is bigger, theirs is better, they got a better deal than you, if you paid $1.79 for something you paid too much....and on and on...and on and on

nah, i think its smarter. that's why jews are always over-represented in the fields of medicine, law, etc. we need the brains to pull it off.

flesh, don't take the bait.

I'm actually in agreement with a lot of what you've said on religion, even if I believe that religion in the right doses is good for a people.

It's when people try to impose their beliefs onto others is where it all goes horribly, horribly wrong

I can't even begin to go over stuff, so I'll keep it somewhat simple.

First, thanks for the words, flesh. My job isn't to convert, but to present the Word. What happens next is up to God, but it doesn't help if I take the part of some raving lunatic - the Lord says we're to love with all our MIND as well as heart, body and soul. So there is a place for intellectual discussion (however limited it might be, and that's not a crack on being stupid; it's an acknowledgment on the limits of our own understanding in such a matter). If we're at the draft party, it's not going to keep me from buying you a beer or something.

Next:
just to follow up on the question of what happens to the souls of those who died without knowing jesus through no fault of their own, i understand that there had been some debate among christian scholars about whether jesus descended to hell to retrieve these souls. again, i offer such a "debate" as further proof of some of the incredible leaps of reason the faithful are forced to jump, but that's what i got. curious to see if you find someting else.

This goes back to the question I'm still trying to research, but there is some talk about what Jesus did during His death. For example, at the church I go to, the Apostles' Creed mentions: 'He descended into Hell; in three days He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty'. Some have taken it to mean the literal Hell, but the word that was used is sheol, which could be misconstrued as meaning Hell, but more literally means "in the ground".

There's nothing in the Bible that suggests that he 'rescued' souls that died not in Him b/c it doesn't suggest that the spiritual realm exists on the same level as the carnal realm (meaning they're not running lock-step with each other). It's a tricky bit of understanding b/c it doesn't make sense in the realm we're in now. I'm still looking for a bit that I heard long ago about Jesus supposedly ministering to souls in Hell, but again, that's not Biblically sound doctrine (at least to my knowledge it's not).

Some of this stuff is touched on in the Book of Revelation, but again, I will have to do more research and get back to you, because it ties somewhat in with your previous question.
