You have my deepest sympathy, Scotty. Losing a parent is a very difficult thing that most of us will go through at some point. Having lost my dad a few years ago, the only advice I can give is to enjoy the pleasant memories - they will not go away. I've found that, though it never seems to get "easier", I do find myself smiling more when I think back about my dad - the tears subside.

R.I.P.

Scott,

I'm very sorry to hear about this. We extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Scott had mentioned that few here knew Mary. I consider myself lucky to be one of those few. She was a kind, open, and very caring person She would always greet you with a smile, a hug and a "Howaaaya Hon?" with her NY accent.

As sweet as she was, she was also had a feisty side and could be a bit of a scrapper. I can remember when we were moving stuff into the college apartment, and we were about to pull away from Scott's house, she looked over at me and said "Take care of him". I said, "I will", to which she replied "You betta....or I'll knock ya on yerass" (with a raised fist and a smile).

She was named Mary, but she'll always be remembered by me and a group of Scott's friends as "Ma Johnson". In a very real way, for a time she was a Ma to a lot of us, as we spent a hell of a lot of time over at his house. Ma welcomed all of us, made us dinner a few times (hell of a cook, great Italian food), and would also be willing to make us breakfast after a particularly looooong night. That brings back another great memory...Ma was an early riser (like around 4:00 as I recall), so naturally we crossed paths in other directions on occasion. There were a couple of times that she came up to the kitchen only to be greeted by a small group of us and a mountain of empty cans.

"Awwww-Jesus!", she'd say...with a smile of course.

Ma Johnson...she always had a way with words.

Love ya Ma, rest in peace.

Wow, sorry to hear that J, thats a day none of who haven't experienced it yet can imagine. That said, you and your family are in my prayers, that your sadness is equaled by your great memories of her, and that we can all be thankful of those wonderful people we call mom (or ma) for making us who we are.

May God bless all of you until you get to see your mother again in paradise.

All,

My sincerest thanks to all of you who have expressed your condolences and offered bits of peace of mind.

I often wondered why users would post their personal losses here until my turn arose and the notion became quite clear... I felt it was something I should share with you guys. It occurred to me that there really is a strong sense of community on this web site and it's possible that even through a web browser we can lean on each other a little bit. It's a remarkable thing.

Your thoughts and prayers helped and for that I thank you.

We had the funeral on Monday and we were able to remember my mother in a way she deserved. And for that I'm very grateful.

Thanks again, to all of you.

So sorry to read of your loss. Both of my parents have passed away and I know it is not easy what you are going through. As someone else mentioned over time the tears get replaced with memories and eventually turn to smiles and stories. God bless your mother and your entire family.
