I don't know why so many people are already jumping off the sixers bandwagon. Stefanski finally got changed us into one of the biggest shoppers in the NBA. With all this new cap room, something Billy king doesn't know much about, we should we be able to make a splash in this years free agent pool.

I know we will end up giving Iguodola a new contract and probably more than he would have gotten last summer, but its the right move. We are better off spending 60 million on our franchises current centerpiece than wiping the slate clean.

I know Speights isn't a player to get too excited about, but there was not much else available in the draft at that point to fill our hole at power forward. Let ed stefanski work his magic and see where he goes from here. He hasn't even had the team a full year and people are worrying where we are headed. Miller will be here until lou williams gets to the next level, young looks very promising, and Dalembert is overpaid but competes in the eastern coference.

I am looking forward to this upcoming season and hopefully a move or two will happen before or during that will keep us competing. Wouldn't you rather root for a team that has a chance to compete in the playoffs instead of wining and bitching about how bad we are and hoping to get a top 3 pick. Lets get behind the sixers and give them some credit. AI played great this year while the rest of the team out performed their expectations. A taste of the playoffs is never a bad thing.

Jameson resigns with Wiz.

Brand opts out. So does Baron Davis.

Arenas to be offered 6/100 deal with Wiz.

Brand sez he's going to attempt to restructure with the Clips. Which makes sense, since you'd be trading in $16 mil of guaranteed money for a lot more guaranteed money over X amount of years.

Ah well.

Mikey Miss had one of the Atlanta scouts on his show the other day, and Atlanta seems to be ready to back the Brinks truck for Josh Smith. Sixers can still get him, since he's an unrestricted FA (which is what I was confused about before).

Bass, Josh Smith is restricted. Hawks gave him a qualifying offer which allows them to match what another team puts on the table. The best way to acquire him would be via a sign-and-trade.

WHICH IS WHAT I WAS ASKING YOU 2 PAGES AGO~!

If Philly can sign him, well, lets just say i will be right there with "The Kruker" in my anticipation of pro hoops again since I had season tics & they had A.I/Croce combo.

I meant to say "restricted". Bad fingers.

Was confused only because of the contract, because I thought I read somewhere (not here) that he reached certain milestones in his contract that allowed him to be a RFA.

NBA contracts make me hurt my head, anyways.

Doesn't it seem as though they're not going to be able to sign anyone who can make an impact because the $12 million they can offer is nothing compared to what the players' current teams can offer? With Jameson signed and Brand looking to stay (because he'd make more money that way), Josh Smith seems the be their last hope. Otherwise, they'd only be looking at role players, right? Assuming Stefanksi isn't planning something crazy by completely re-vamping the roster the summer...

i agree, i think the chances of the sixers making an impact directly out of the FA pool is not looking good. perhaps they try to do something with via trade, since they can take back more salary.

Now that it is after the July 1 deadline for players to opt out, some things have changed that may not help our FA quest. With Baron Davis opting out along with Brand, it seems they are going to take less money this year to get their long contracts. (both have had knee injuries, so I would get a new contract as fast I could). My hopes for Brand to sign with the sixers have dwindeled a little bit.

We are supposed to have Josh Smith come in sometime this week for a workout. How can you not get excited about this. I know he's a restricted free agent but you never know what is going on in Atlanta's front office. They have plenty of SF's on their squad and may just not want to spend more money.

It looks like Ed Stefanski isn't getting too nervous about what is happening. He seems very patient but vocal about signing a FA or making a move during the season to get a player. Apparently the sixers were getting ready to make an offer to Antwan Jamieson before he resigned with the Wizards. If you listen to the answers Stefanski gives during interviews, it sounds like there is no chance he is letting lou williams get away and that hes going to wait and see what other teams are offering or thinking about offering AI before he makes a move. Obviously he'd like AI back, but it seems he is not that worried about it which is good.

As much as i would love to see Brand on the sixers and get some reliable low post scoring, Josh smith is younger and a freak of an athlete. Just think about AI, Smith, and Young in our lineup in the next couple of years. With the offense we are looking to run and a concentration on the defensive end, Smith would be a great addition.

What does everyone think? Anyone got any players that they think we could get our hands on during the year in a trade?

Krukker, in less than 24 hours, your enthusiasm has significantly waned.

I am now very disappointed in you, Krukker. You got me so excited for free agency, and if the Sixers don't sign anyone of importance, I may never root for them again.

You will be to blame, Krukker. You and only you.

Talon, its not that I am lost the excitement of this summer's free agency period. Its just some things have unfolded that make it seem that Brand, our number 1 target, has been hinting at staying in LA. Brand opting of his contract is a great thing for the Sixers. Now we can throw money at him instead of working around a sign and trade. I would say it gives us a better chance at getting him. The thing that I didn't like that happened was Baron Davis opting out. He's from LA and went to UCLA, so there's obviously going to be rumors of him going back home.

Brand has already previously stated that he would like to remain on the clippers. If the clippers let maggette go, they are looking to have around $25 million to split between Davis and Brand.

If anything I have gotten more excited with Smith coming in for a visit and hearing Stefanski vocalize that he wants to be a player and use our cap space. I agree the tone of my 2nd post may not have seemed like i lost hope, but it wasn't my intent. I was just posted up the recent opt outs and how I thought it would affect us. There is a lot of time this summer to make some moves.

Overall I couldn't be happier right now, I was just noting some obvious points.

Talon, how can you not be pumped up still? Our team has the potential to drastically change in the next couple of months. I was also looking to hear what other people thought and some other names that we could possibly go after. I know that our moves and success in free agency will not be affected by my postings.

Well, if you're happy, I guess I'm happy. Now that I understand your intent, I'm going to back off the ledge just a little bit, but I warn you, any more outbursts like your last one, and I am taking the jump. Don't try to stop me.

But I do think it's time to sign the alarm on free agency. As I've said before, the Sixers might not have the dough to compete with these players' existing teams.

We have to figure this out quickly, but this problem is beyond my reach. Trust me, I want to help out in any way I can. I'm not some freeloader, like those Eagles fans who bitch about Reid and Banner but never offer any help. I'll tell you now, TheTalon is here to help Ed Stefanski. I will do almost anything that is asked of me, anything to help our cause. I just need some guidance. Where can my assistance be best put to use?

Okay, Krukker.

Do I get my hopes up again or what?

I'm kind of baffled as to why these teams would want to trade for Calvin Booth and Rodney Carney unless the Sixers were going to have to give up some great picks in the future as part of the deal.
Yo, click it

Carney showed some promise late in the year. After ripping him (and Billy King) incessantly for a long time, I'd actually be sad to see him go. If he can be a Raja Bell-type player (strong defender, can hit a three in the corner) then he'll have success, most likely on a good team that won't need him to score.

Booth's value lies in the fact that he has an expiring contract, which in the NBA is like having a bar of gold.

I always thought that you couldn't trade players away without getting players in return with closely matching salaries, so I don't know how practical these trades are. But if ESPN is reporting it it must be true.

i wondered about the same thing the other day. without being able to offer any detail whatsoever, it has something to do with the fact that both or one team is under the cap.

It appears as though the deal is getting closer. Now it's Carney plus a future 1st rounder with Booth as a possible throw-in.

They're still working on what they'd get in return.

I assume they can't take anything but draft picks, right, and since they're sending a 1st rounder, would they be getting 2nd rounders back in return?

And this article says that the deal is done, and the Sixers are getting Minnesota's "$2.8 million trade exception from a 2007 deal of Mark Blount to the Miami Heat."

You can trade trade exceptions?
