Yes the Timberwolves recieved part of a teams trade exception money in a trade earlier this year. Now they are going to eat the 3 million dollars or so of Carney's and Booth's contracts. They are doing this to get Utah's 1st round pick we got in the Korver trade.

So it looks like Stefanski is wheeling and dealing like he said he would. I love this move and am surprise we pulled it off. Brand just wants to get out of the west and already knew what his clippers team could do (minus Davis).

Hopefully we will be able to get a shooter somehow. Or Iguodola gets his ass in the gym and stops shooting fade aways.

Krukker, if this deal becomes official at 12:01, I will never doubt you again!

Stefanski really pulled some magic out of his ass to make this one happen. Very impressive.

Unlike the Webber trade, this has a different kind of "Wow" effect. I didn't want to see Carney go, but guys like him can be found.

Very shrewd to trade for an exemption, and this move doesn't throw them back into salary cap purgatory. On top of all this, he's got a valuable trade chip in Andre Miller, and teams will be desperate to add a good PG with an expiring contract.

Fast Eddie's winning me over.

Would like to keep Miller if they feel like they can contend now. Veteran teams win in the NBA. While it's nice to have a mix of young players you will need veterans to lead you to a ring.

I'm not saying that as the current team stands that they can win now.

i'd like to keep miller around.

the question is, is iggy the best fit for the team at the 2 or are they better off with a less "well rounded" guy who can shoot?

Miller seems to not want to be here, and while I'd like to keep him, he may be able to net a good deal from a contender.

He's been very good for this team, but I think he's gone by the trade deadline back out west.

He hasn't come out of his mouth and said "I don't want to be here", but various interviews have hinted that he might want a change of scenery. Not so much that he doesn't like it here, but that he might be happier out west.

I'd like for him to stay here, even as a tutor to the next PG of this team, and his vet status can't be understated. I'm just saying this from the couple of snippets I've heard.

Of course, I could also be blowing this out of proportion. But we'll also see the Sixers stance on it, if they want to lock him up long-term before he hits FA, or if they're thinking they could net more with a good PG with an expiring contract.

They really need him for his perimeter D if they keep Miller. Last year with Miller and Willie G they suffered tremendously in that aspect. As for acquiring a shooter, do they have ANY cap space left? MLE?

Not a lot of room for Speights now, I guess, with Brand and Evans ahead of him, and with Young and Smith surely to get some minutes at the 4 in the rotation. Wouldn't be surprised if he starts out in the D League.

Exactly what did he say that hinted he'd like a change of scenery?

From the Inky (05/08/08):

And then there is Miller, who was considered the most important reason the Sixers went 40-42 and earned their first playoff berth in three years.

...

On Friday, when asked if he would be interested in staying with the Sixers beyond next season, Miller answered: "I don't know. It's hard to tell right now."

Stefanski has yet to talk to Miller, saying he has to concentrate on the current free agents and the draft. Eventually, he plans to sit down with him.

"Andre has to be on board [on] the team, so there are two sides to this thing," Stefanski said.

Well, I think that quote is probably contingent on the amount of money offered.

Like any smart athlete, he's positioning himself to get a good deal and isn't negotiating backwards by saying, "I'd do anything to stay!"

I'm not entirely sure how the NBA cap works or how far the Sixers are under it.

That said, will they:

A) Have enough cap room to extend Iguodala (assuming his demands are not totally unreasonable)?

B) Be able to match potentially big offers for Iguodala from the Clippers or Atlanta (should the Clippers steal Josh Smith)?

Bass, I think one of of the reasons why Brand wanted to come here was that he and Miller are former teammates- and I think that Miller with his "let's see what they (management) do in the offseason" was about just this.

I think Miller stays and the Sixers have a nice little squad shaping up. All they need is some more outside shooting.

Talon:

In the NBA you can resign your own players for whatever and still go over the cap. It's called the Larry Bird rule. The Sixers have said they have no money b/c they put money away for Iggy under the assumption that he is going to sign for close to what they offered him last year.

Assuming Iggy signs I like the starting 5 a bunch. They will have a great fast break as long as Brand and Sammy rebound. The bench not so much. Green, Williams, Evans and Smith are not going to light the world on fire or scare many teams. They need a shooter but don't have the money this year.

I'm going on record and say the Brand signing is a BUST.

Way too much Moula for this dude.

Hopefully the 76ers checked him out (physically) better than the Phillies do with their free agents signings.

Section- a bust?

He's a double-double player that they will need if they plan on going back and advancing to the playoffs.

Not saying he's Moses Malone, but they did better than getting another athletic forward who will disappear when "the going gets slow" -aka the playoffs.
