the booze mellowed the experience a bit, but i don't think it had much to do with all the disassociative stuff i experienced.

I distinctly remember wearing a white lab coat while taking 'shrooms at Live Aid. So yes, they were experiments.

Funny, I don't recall it being as far back as 1987 (thought it could have been) but I definitely watched a Glover Letterman appearance live where I was sure he was on acid and Letterman all but said he was not coming back (don't have sound here, does he say anything like that during the course of this one?).
So, either he did it multiple times and that was just part of his schtick, or maybe that was the interview I recall. But I am not sure that as far back as 1987 I would have been so quick to think someone was specifically on acid....

My first "experiment" began at the bus stop on the way to high school senior year. Nothing like double Calculus into Physics on LSD.

My last experiment was a "KPJ Doubleheader". That's a round of golf at FDR Golf Course and a leisurely walk to the Vet for a Businessman's special with the Phils.
Dropped at the turn and it kicked in around the 12th hole, turning a promising round in the mid 80s into a disastorous 135. The 3 block walk to the Vet seemed to take 6 months and I can't even begin to explain trying to find our seats. The game was fun and having my buddy's brother drive us home was a stroke of genius.
Retrieving my car the next morning was a pain in the ass, though.
I quit everything else around 15 years ago and recently quit drinking, though it feels temporary.

fågel, that's completely out of hand - I couldn't even imagine golfing on 'cid.
I have a hard enough time breaking 100 sober anymore.

Only half the foursome dropped, so we had spotters.
The funniest moment was when the other tripper went off the "f*cking horses" following us to the Vet, only to realize the sound was from his golf shoes.

At the bar I used to work at, there was this older dude Lenny who (surprise, surprise) used to be a huge Deadhead fan and used to follow them around the country. He said he'd taken over 300 hits of LSD in his lifetime, among other things.
Now I know that there is some sort of threshold after which you are declared "legally insane"- but I don't remember what the number is. Does anyone know?
And for the record, this dude was certifiable.

On this point, flesh is right.
There is no legal limit to the number of LSD doses you can take before you cross a threshold and become "legally insane."
One obvious reason for that would be the fact that we're talking about a black market substance, so there are no rules on the size or strength of one dose.
I knew a guy in college who was a couple of years older than most of us, and a few years before he wound up at our school, he took acid every day for 30 continuous days. That little fact explained A LOT. The guy was certainly brilliant, and he's probably the most well-red person I've ever met, but man, he would have some serious problems communicating like a normal human being. And if you want to talk about weird twitches, this guy wrote the book on bizarre physical behavior. You could never hold a conversation with him for more than 30 seconds before he'd twitch his arm or jut his neck out in some odd way while his eyes were bulging or blinking.
Of course, these are physical attributes that every young actor desires. Somehow, some way, I'm told the guy has been successful in L.A.
The only person I've ever seen behave this way is Crispin Glover, which is how I've made my completely scientific diagnosis of his performance on Letterman.
And flesh is wrong about being able to read on acid. I know this for a fact. It's not easy, but it can be done. The first time I took it, I needed that copy of the Tour Extra to save me from the evil Primus being played over the P.A. at setbreak while I was peaking.

A) I recall what Glenn said he rememebered- Dave saying something like "He'll never be back" but I wanna say that may have been 89, when i was in my Late Nite heyday.
B) Watchin that clip- Letterman can be such an a-hole to someone's face I love it.
C) Ledger's performance has yet to be seen, and its getting OSCAR wispers, but MAN would Glover have been a GREAT effin Joker.

F4F, probably because the villians have been cartoonish (Ahnold as Mr Freeze, DeFoe as Green Goblin, Hackman as Luthor). Batman Begins was the 1st I remember having a "legit" feel.

While I thought Batman Begins was awesome, I thought that the villain wasn't up to snuff- I like my villain to have some sort of superpower or be slightly cartoonish, but with more realism than toon. The trick is to make the villain a deep character with plenty of development. Think about the Sergio Leone westerns. The reason they were great is because they spent as much time with the bad guys as they did with the good guys. "If you're gonna shoot- shoot, don't talk!"
When they get that right, they will have a series on par with the Star Wars movies.

In those roles, yes. Obviously, Glover isn't anywhere near the actor they are.
