Not when the Tour de France is going on.

Sheesh.

I try to, I really do... but it's hard to get excited about events where the winner seems to have, oh, about 40% chance of being declared ineligible for one reason or another (but usually, one reason...)

That and I enjoy rooting against our men's basketball team. Say what you will about my patriotism, but I enjoyed the first Dream Team (1992). Now, it feels like overkill, and I enjoy seeing the moire fundamental styles of the European and South American teams having its day.

There are lots of reasons not to care about the Olympics, this year in particular. Saw a story about how China is randomly booting people out of their homes to build dorms or venues for the games. And they are given no alternative housing.


But the fact that there is little difference between Olympic athletes and professional athletes contributes as well. It's just that the ones in the lesser sports have to market themselves harder.

The summer olympics, no matter the venue, leave me cold. I think is has to do with the winter olympics being on at a time that doesn't conflict with things I care about (baseball, football starting, hockey/basketball playoffs).

Also, they don't do curling in the summer games. If there's a televised sporting activity (besides bowling) that is more mind numbing and beckons you to watch with a small army of cold 12oz. soldiers by your side than curling, I haven't found it.

Could the IOC picked a worst place than Beijing China to have to the Olympics games...

Most polluted city in the fkn world folks.

Glenn hit it on the head why I feel so disgusted with the Chineese on this one. That is truly pathetic.

I really don't get into any sport during the Summer Olympics, but have tried before.

Winter Olympics are awesome for hockey, slalom, ski jumping (just think it'd be cool but don't want to risk serious personal injury trying it) and the dumbest but most entertaining event - the luge.

I'm watching the Opening Ceremonies now. Is there anything less entertaining than OG Opening Ceremonies? Also, if your the white Coach of an African or Asian country and they wear Native garb during the parade. Wear a suit, the dashiki or turban makes you look like a dork.

And I swear to God they are just making up countries to just have in the parade.

The best part of the OG is all the betting I coordinate behind the bar.

It is so much fun to bet on events and athletes you know nothing about and to watch some drunken NYer root his heart out for an Estonian handball player.

I have already gotten down on China in all badminton events.

I wanted to parlay that to China in all diving events but my book does not allow me to parlay olympic events.

I took the "yes" at 3-1 that an athlete will die during the marathon.

Also, if anyone is going to the track tomorrow, get the home equity loan and unload on Rosinka in the Beverly D.

Oh, and I almost forgot...I put $20 on Mexico in the "how many immigrants can we fit into a vehichle and out of that number how many can we kill by rolling said vehicle" event. Which is new this year.

They booted something like 1.5 millin people out of their homes to build that huge dam that is now all effed up and eroding all their farm land.
